Can someone please explain to me why the change was made to pet/vehicle calling?

I havemixed feelings on the whole thing.

On the one hand, as a Resource gatherer, CH dabbler, and novice Doc (working on Master). I like that I don't need a camp to pull out my pets or medical droid or speeder. I like it because its convienient.

On the other hand, as an aspiring novice scout. I find this idea very troublesome.

Prior to its implementation each group mission was started from a camp. At the camp any buffing, healing, pet calling, planning, and general group social banter took place prior to engaging the lair.

Removing the requirement to have a camp for these things seems to me have greatly cut down on a big social part of the game as well as removing xp oppertunities for non-combat specialized group members. The camp requirement gave musicians and dancers the oppertunity to gain a bit of xp between fights as well. And since the camp was a requirement for pulling out your pets the combatants didnt mind as they could use the time to rest, heal, re-equip powerups, restock grenades, etc.

Not to mention the blow that the novice scout has taken. Prior to this "improvement" a novice scout could count on getting a couple hundred survival xp prior to and following each mission. While its wasnt a ton of xp it did add up and beat the hell out of sitting in an empty camp by yourself.

Believe it or not, not all players are concerned with maximizing thier xp with every action. A great number of us play cause its fun, and don't feel a ton of pressure to level up as fast as possible.

Oh well, if someone could just answer the first question I'd be much abliged.

Oh ya, if anyone wants to buy a crate of camp kits *cheap* let me know, I sure as heck dont need em.

One big reason: They couldn't fix the problem of vehicles storing themselves spontaniously. Because most people don't have scout skills, it's necessary for people to be able to do something about this problem without a camp.

Regardless of it making camps useless, I like the change. It doesn't break the realism for me at all and it simplifies the game. That's win-win in my book.

Besides, now that camps really only have two uses (survival XP and buffing) we have more leverage with which to request changes. "There is no use for them at all, please fix them" has more weight than "We don't like how they are currently and they are mostly useless, please fix them."

People cried and whined enough so the Dev's decided to take the easy route and shut em up.

"I am forced to spend 15 SP on scout if I want to call my pet/droid/vehicle when and where I want"

Did you see how many of those posts were made, especially on other forums?? Talk about sniveling and snot slinging. You would have thought they were being made to clean their rooms or something.

All in all, it is good for the people who have scout, if only for economic reasons. Go and count how many Rangers you see. Clue ya, not many. How many people dropped scout to add to other professions - many many many. Hmmm- less scouts, few Rangers, who is harvesting - Bounty Hunters?? CHs?? BEs?? Fewer harvestors = higher prices for those that do. Dunno bout y'all, my new minimum price is now 5cpu, and thats for crap. All in all, I like it.

And I still use camps to get my stuff out without waiting, as I laugh at the others waiting for the time to count down.

And if you are with a group hunting, and explain you need to pop camp for xp, most will understand. If not, find a new group.

Guys,

For the fifth time now...

...there is no point in debating the merits of this change. It's done, it's over, it's not being changed back. We're working now to get our camps upgraded so that they become more useful than they were before.

This debate didn't happen over two days. It went over for over two months, and no amount of lobbying I did could stop it.

It's time to move on.

Only reason I'm happy about the change is cause I was tried of being in the middle of a misson or away from a city/town and my pet/droid or speeder auto storing (Mainly speeder issue bothered me). If they had fixed that problem I wouldnt have seen a reason for the change. Hopefully they will implant a way for camps to be more useful as my speeder hasnt auto stored on me for awhile so I'm happy either way.

I wish we could actually USE the camps--not just look at the tents, but go inside them, even cook, lol--fry fish, hehe. Would make the whole Fishing/Camping experience really cool. I'd be doing that all the time. With foraging/surveying/crafting--makes Scout/Ranger/Artisan such an awsome 3-some.

um about to open a huge can of worms here

Requireing camps to call stuff was the nerf for CH way back in patch 2 or 3.
Since they haven't been able to fix the autostore bug and it then applied to vehicles.

Think about it some people are purely crafters. They take their vehicle scout around on Expert planets for specific resources (yavinian fiberplast, Endorian berry fruit, Lok wild wheat). Now they finally find a good Conc of resources, hop off their bike, plant their harvestors. Turn around and POOF no bike. You now have a 5K walk to the shuttleport on a expert planet with no conbat skills = instant death and a real time 45 min walk.

That isn't what most people consider fun. This is a game, people don't play it to get pissed off and frustrated.

that's MCH and I just found out (from a CSR no less) that I am the oldest remaining on my main server.

Despite the fact that CH is useless for PvP I still love it. yes the buggs get frustrating as does teh lack of love, but the ability to help my friends level up their hologrinding does make it invaluable, if not to me to others.

Personally I liked the change. I agree, its done and not going to get changed back. But I don't want it changed bcak. Those old reasons to need a camp pulled were lame reasons to pull one out. What we want are good reasons and benifits for pulling out a camp. So people want us to.
