I didn't see anywhere on the screen that I got XP for it, so I didn't know, and I hoped somebody would be able to tell me.

I've noticed that I have General Crafting Experience on my skills sheet. I assume it's coming from constructing camps and darts as the general crafting tool is used for those items. I never see a message that I'm recieving gcxp, but it does show up on my sheet.

You get general crafting XP for making traps and camps.

Actually, according to the manual, you only get Crafting XP when someone else uses an item you craft. So if you've sold any of your traps or camps that would explain how crafting XP creeps into your stats.

I've tested it and it seems you acrue about 30 general crafting experience per campsite constructed. I don't know if you get more for people using them.

The manual is somewhat outdated in what it says since many systems were being tweaked up until the very end of beta. You get some xp for making an item, and depending upon the item in question, more xp for its use.

I got my Engineering up to Engineering 2 by crafting traps and camps. My trapping is about halfway through the third tier.

I've been playing a scout now for about 3 days, and here's what I've noticed.

You get no XP when crafting anything. You do, however, get XP for using the stuff you create. I trap every creature I fight before attacking with a ranged weapon. It starts out small, with around 20 -40 XP per trap per creature when fighting against small things, but when you successfully trap a larger creature, the XP can be quite large. I was getting 250 per trap against a Greater Womp Rat. You can only successfully usea type of trap against a creature once. The second time you try the same type of trap against the same creature, you will have no effect. But, at Trap II, you have 5 different types of traps available to you, so you can use them each once per creature. Believe me, the XP does add up.

For Camps, you get Survival XP for staying in a camp that you created. The XP gain is dependant on the amount of time spent in the camp. I usually end up setting up a camp, and stay logged in while I sleep, or go outside. Eventually, your camp will decay and dissolve. This will also happen if you leave your camp for a certain length of time (1 minute, I think). When the camp dissapears, you get the XP for the time you spent in it. The most I ever received at one time was 640 XP for an overnight stay.

You can use the same type of trap against the same creature more than once. It's just that the effects have to be worn off of the creature. For example, if you successfully use a Sharp Bone Spur against a creature it will be blinded. If during the battle the blindness expires, then you can use the Spur again and get the same amount of xp you got the first time.

Exactly. Even on the easiest of creatures I use multiple traps just for the XP. Build them before you start fighting and use the hotkeys for quick access to all of them.

I get 50 General Crafting XP for making a Multiperson Camp Kit (Complexity 4)

I get 30 General Crafting XP for making a trap (Glow-Juice Trap,complexity 4)

I haven't noticed any substantial General Crafting XP from using either though (given the small percentages though... and single use nature, I wouldn't expect much)
