Thread: Is camping the ONLY way to get Survival XP?
unfortunately. To do this it's incredably slow alone. About 1200xp an hour.... 15 to 30 minutes to get the full 600 xp on single person camp. about 30 minutes for the two person camp. With more wounds and injuries you get more xp. More people will raise xp faster as well. Sometimes 5 to 10 minutes for a group of 5. More visitors faster xp.
Since finding a group where you're the only scout is close to impossible all the time, the best way is to grind it out and make and destroy tents. I found a mineral rich zone on Talus where several resources could be found above 50% in one spot. So I layed out a tent. Harvested resources, and every 25 or so minutes knocked down my one man tent and made a new one. All the 600 hide and bone I collected raising scout xp payed off. I also found multiperson tents just don't work well for solo xp. When I was bored and fed up with camping 12 hours straight, I realised I have like 1200 copper and a crap load of other resources that I mined out while camping.
I also managed to do a starwars movie Marathon. Godfather marathon and Aliens marathon. I also managed to vacuum the entire place and wash the dishes for once. So i guess Galaxies is great for me being productive in real life while grinding out skills. though I'll NEVER make another scout character, since Imake different characters on each server to try out different skills. Perhaps one of them will be lucky to get a FS slot
Yes camping is the sole source of survival experience. Mask scent used to give scouting experience.
A good way to raise survival is find a heavily camped spot (tuskan raider camp near wayfar comes to mind) and set up camps. People will come and go a lot there. If you can enlist a doctor or a dancer to join you, you can advertise wound healing at xxxx xxxx and get a lot of survival exp fast.
Survival skill is the only scout skill that really needs some lovin.
The fact you only get it form camps, lots of people can make camps and need the skill, and it requires huge amounts of down time to generate the exp make this the champion NO fun skill of the scout class.
Suggestion: Have forage return survival exp would be a nice change, or add a survival skill that also gives survival exp... say the creation of a camp kit. This would serve a few functions and make scouts more fun. First, if you got survival exp for crafting camp kits, this would resolve the survival tedium;
Second, scouts could sell camp kits to other players to make a little extra cred, (not a huge market, but a possibility)
Forth we have to craft them anyway lets get some recognition in a skill we use that we are crafting
docs get med crafting how about some scout crafting points for making scout items, that would count as survival exp.
