Thread: How are you making money as a scout?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I tend to do destroy missions, only with groups. I do delivery missions usually, only for my faction. I also sell any meat/hide/bone I have left over that I know I cannot use. As well as sell all foraged goods.
Make a good deal of piddly cash on most of it. Deliveries pay me, for the most part.
The price for materials is starting to vary quite a bit as people become more savy about the effect that the different qualities have in producing high quality items. The days when the game first came out and you could reliably sell items for 5 credits a unit is long gone. Be realistic and start checking with crafters for the quality they're looking for and be willing to sell cheap if the items aren't what people need.
As for what I do for cash, it's destroy missions on animal lairs. If you want quick cash killing low end critters be sure to access the mission terminals with empty hands (if Teras Kai hold a gun
). The machine cons you based on the level of skill you have with the equipped weapon and will offer you higher critters the higher your skill and lower critters with lower skill.
Also don't assume that high paying jobs are dangerous ones. There's a certain random element in the rewards and I've seen missions to kill a Durni nest paying more than a Bagaraset lair. Always check the details on a mission before you accept it.

Sell critter parts on the bazaar. I usually sell skins for 4-6 credits, and I've seen people say they've gotten higher. As a scout, you'll get critter parts by the 1000's. Good way to supplement the ol' bank account.

Yep, it's all about selling those hides and bones, mostly. I have never harvested meat, so I don't know how well it sells. When you go on those destroy missions, do nothing but harvest the hides for a couple of them. That should get you a couple hundred hides, which I have sold for 500. Next do a couple destroy and collect nothing but bones. Sell those as well. This way you get money for both the mission, and the harvested resources. Double income.
If your hunting is high enough, level II I think, you can "examine" the creatures and it tells you what kind of hide they give. Leathery, bristley, scaley, or wooley, are the ones I've seen.

I hooked up with a crafter friend of mine, and we've got an agreement whereby I keep him supplied with hides and bones and he keeps me supplied with armor and weapons. Occasionally we'll run some destroy missions together as well. All in all it works out pretty well for us. But as the others have said, our harvested goods can be sold pretty easily.

This also worked for me because I made friends with a crafter, whom I sell my steel for 2 creds per unit. Of course they aren't that high of quality, he's just trying to skill grind.
I do however get about 2.5k steel per harvester per day. I've gotten to the point where I only need to visit the harvesters once a day, then I run to his store and put the materials up on his vendor. When I log on the next day I'm anywhere from 16-20k richer.

If your not ready for combat (e.g. no gear)
delivery missions, get 2 to the same town, then get 2 coming back.
If your ready for combat..
Destroy missions.
Get two going the same way and Kill kill kill.
I made 100k working my way up from novice scout to Explore 4 purely from destroy missions. (that's after paying for all my training. Paying for all those Cantina and Medical Center visits. I've never been in a group (besides to teach some else) so your milage may vary.
Hides.
I sell hides, and I resell hides. I started selling my hides at 2 credit a hide. They went like hot cakes. Then I sold them for 4 credits a hide. They still went like hot cakes. Then I noticed that it was one person buying most my hides. I looked on the bazaar and they them selves were selling hides at 10 credit a piece Just like everyone else. Then I relized I'm not helping crafters at all I"m only helping the rich get richer. So I charge 10 credit a hide. They still sell like hot cakes, but now it takes a couple hours instead of a couple minutes. When I see other people selling hides for less I go ahead and buy theirs and resell them at full value too. if it's a stupid amount of hides I'll even fly to other towns to buy and resell. (bought 1500 hides for 1500 credits and it only cost me 440 credits round trip to go get em. turned around and sold them the same day for 15k.)
I have no guilt, I going to pay over 10k for any gear worth owning. (e.g. not crap people dumped onto the bazaar to get UXP for) Money is extremely easy to get. 300 hides will net you 3k, you can do 2 destroy missions and clear more credits than that. It will certainly take you longer to collect 300 hides, than it will to do 2 destroy missions. They are just Icing on the cake.
First off Harvest all 3 kinds of resources. Once you have bundles of 100+ head to the bazaar. I sell my stuff depending upon quality, demand, etc..
If you have a resources that has 800+ in both Overall Quality and another stat you can get 10+ credits a unit.
I usually use 10 credits a piece as my starting point and discount or raise price according to quality.
100 units of Mamilian (sp?) wild meat from Yavin IV would be worth 1500. It has over 900 inoverall quality and Stored energy, and like 600 in taste. Great for any medical use! Amazing results every time I use it.
100 units of leathery hide with a OC of 190 would be 600.
Just the other day, I thought "well I'm never gonna use all these resources. I should sell them" Best Idea ever! went at listed about 600 different units of meat, hide and bones, headed to Yavin IV to do some more hunting, and the mail just kept rolling in.
I Made 7000 credits in 30 minutes. While I collected a bunch more.
Here's my business plan.
I take 2 delivery or destroy missions. I walk to the destination, even if it's 5000-7000 meters away. Along the way, I hunt anything I come across. I set up camps when I need to heal, I forage for food while in camp. A typical 2 mission trek takes me about an hour to do, but I almost always return with 250+ hides and bones.
Once I get to the end destination, I'll take another 2 missions and walk again. Usually after the second set of mission journeys I have well over 500 hides and bones which I sell to an artisan who I have made a deal with. He then supplies me with weapon upgrades, armor, clothes, etc. I have sold them outright as well, getting about 3.5 credits per unit.
