Thread: New to Scouting and need some direction
Hi, I'm finishing up my Marksmanship training and am starting in on my scouting (going for BH if you couldn't tell already). I am having trouble figureing out just what it is I had to do to earn the neccessary XP. In Marksmanship it was easy because you have three weapon categories and to get XP you just use the weapons. Scouting seems a little more involved so I was wondering if there were any good online resources that described what is neccessary to get XP in Scout (ie a scouting how to). Any help would be awesome!!
I just wrote this guide that might be helpful for you. It describes the best ways to gain Scouting xp (Exploration/Hunting branches):

For Trapping, buy a General Crafting Tool and it will give you the schematics for two traps to start with. Make them with harvested hide and bones, then throw them at creatures to get Trapping xp. Throw one of each type at each creature for max xp.
For Survival, make Camps in your General Crafting Tool (hide and bones) and run out of the city, trying to use the camp until it stops saying it's a no building zone. The more time/people/healing spent in your camp, the more Survival xp it grants you.
better yet dont bother with scout till they fix the nerfs with it
Hehe, I have got to tell you, I would have never thought in 2 years to throw different types of traps at my target!I have trapping III. Now they are easier to hit and I get more trapping XP!
Thanks!
I'm sorry but I don't remember the branches of scout you need for Bounty Hunter but some general advice is this.
For Trap make traps and use them. They're sort of like hand grenades that only work on animals. If you have decent Rifle skills use the Headshot special attack and the Sharp Bone Spur or Noisemaker to target a creature's Mind pool (Durni's and Paralopes on Corellia are especially vulnerable to this attack). When you get the P.Dart, that will let you slow a creature to a crawl so you can shoot and move away from it. Stink Bombs make animals more susceptible to intimidation type attacks like the Level 3 Weapons Support Warning Shot. Wire Mesh eleiminates a creatures defense against melee attacks, the Glow Juice against ranged attacks and the Glow Wire trap from both. The benefit of these last 3 traps doesn't really pay off that muchunless you're in a group of 3 or more players though.
For Hunting and Exploring the easiest way right now is to kill animals and harvest them for their skin and bones. Once you take novice scout you'll get the harvest option when you bring up the radial menu on a creatures corpse. You can also get exp from using Maskscent, a skill that helps you hide from animals but this only works for exp if you go close to Aggressive animals and successfully avoid detection. If you fail the critter may chase you and you won't be able to reset the Maskscent until 60 seconds have passed. As it stands now you need Level 4 Explore to use it reliably (unless you're a Bothan who get a racial boost to camouflage) and even then it's not bullet proof.
Climbing the Hunting tree gives you more information about animals when you "examine" them and more hides or bones when you harvest them. Explore increases your Camouflage abilities that make's Maskscent and skills like the Rifle tree's Takecover more effective. It also boosts your "terrain negotiation" which, untilskill level50, increases the speed when you move up hills and slopes and, after fifty (you have to Master Scout and start into the Ranger profession to get to this level) you can crawl on the ground faster.
For Wilderness Survival you need to build and use camp sites. The more healing done in the camp the faster you'll get exp. A good way to raise skill in this is to take up Surveying from the Artisan tree and, every time you go away from the keyboard for a meal or to watch tv for a while, set up a camp and leave your character sampling. This damages your mind and action pools until you stop then you'll heal up, increasing the points for using the camp.
