Thread: Not impressed with Maskscent changes
I am fine with maskscent breaking after we take too much damage (though it sounds like it simply breaks upon combat now, so I'll reserve judgement on that).
I still don't get a bonus for being a Bothan, which rather irks me as it was a rather nice benefit when I chose my character. I still would have done so, but now my racial skills are completely worthless as I had the bonus yanked out from under me. Delta, did you ever get a reply that we will get something back? (The +5 doesn't thrill me, but better than nothing, eh?)
I wasn't aggro'd from 64 meters by every creature in existance. This was very good.
My problem is that in my limited testing, maskscent still fails often on pathetic mobs. I only encountered five aggressive last night. Here are my results:
howling plumed rasp - (CL 4), group of four; Maskscent fails when in range of the second.
crazed durni - (CL 10), single; Maskscent holds.
howling plumed rasp - (CL 4), trio; Maskscent fails in range of the first.
crazed durni - (CL 10), duo; Maskscent holds.
howling plumed rasp - (CL 4, single; Maskcent Holds.
I am a master scout. Against five groups of critters, I have a 60% success rate, however in the two cases it broke, successive creatures didn't matter as it broke on the first ones in the group. Were these of a decent level I wouldn't have a problem, but a 60% success rate on a CL 4 critter?
Since this was a relatively small sample I want to ask this: Did I have bad luck, or should I expect even worse fail rates against any creature that actually poses a threat? Should I just remove the maskscent icon from my toolbar so I can use that space for something that is useful?
The tests Delta and N'Raas reported from TC seemed to give better rates, but after the past few days I'm in a rather cynical mood. Please give me some hope. At least I'm not regretting surrendering all my Wayfaring line. *sigh*

I think its just bad luck. You'd need to try it out more than one night in order to get a representative sample.
I had five critical failures crafting camps two nights ago - IN A ROW. Does that mean that crafting was screwed up? No. I was just unlucky. ![]()
I think that's what happened here.
And according to Green, even with the lowest little bugger, you've still only got a maximum of a 95% chance to successfully mask scent against them. That 5% is going to cause you to get hit by some little fellas. Luckily, they can't really do much damage beyond annoying you.
So let's revisit this in a week. ![]()

I must be very, very lucky. I never had a problem with Mask Scent. It seemed to work when it was supposed to and break when it was supposed to. After the big update the other night, it only got better (I also made Master Scout the night of the update just before the server was brought down so it may be my improved stats).
Last night I did one more tour of Tatooine's movie sights before moving off-planet. I ran all through the desert and encountered many herds of aggressive creatures. My Mask Scent broke only once, but I was outside the creature's range so nothing chased me. I even ran though a herd of aggressive Dewbacks (they appeared right in front of me without warning when I tried to avoid another herd of aggressive creatures) without breaking Mask Scent. It was like I was invisible. Of course, I had my finger over the Burst Run and a waypoint to the nearest town just in case... ![]()
