Depends on what you want to do. Do you want to be a crafter who make additives for chefs and pets for CH's? Or do you want to be someone who has a small army with him to defend him?

BE= fancy artisan
CH = dead once the pets fail, and they do, all too frequently
Quit yelling CHs, you know pets are useless against large game as it has 100% resist to your pets primary kinetic attacks and all the pets are good for is tanks at that point.
Never understand why droids are free to use, and pets cost points, but people go for pets. Not a cost effective choice.
Anyhow, you want to craft stuff for other people, go BE. You want to die in PvE and PvP, go CH.
Go both, be essentially useless in combat.

My wifes character is a Master BE/Master CH/Carbineer she does well in PvE. You just need to know the range of your targets

Sad, but true, JB. CH no longer has a role in combat, except low to mid end PvE. I can use my GSP to tank for me when I'm unarmored and unbuffed against mid level NPC missions like Drall and Flails on Corellia, just to hold aggro while I toast them with the FT, but they take a lot of damage in that short period.
No, you're much better off using the JB method of patient tactics, or the buffed and armored route for the quick kill with few consequences.
CH and BE have become basically useless professions, unless you're here to RP and just have fun with those professions. If you're set on being a powergaming a$$hat, these two are of no use to you. Move along.

I can kill durni and rasps with the best of 'em!
Actually I can survive larger things, too, however I have a year of handling experience and some very specific custom crafted BE pets. I am also very, very patient...
For most people JB is right though.

I really have to disagree here. Your GSP isnt that good in combat. Thats not the fault of the BE or CH system. Thats the fault of the user not learning what pets to use. It has very low kinectic and isnt the tank it used to be. You have to find a BE and get a pet with a high kinectic and high ham and try again. As much as this could go into the whole wild vs BE argument. It really comes down to a decision of how much you want your pet to survive. I use both wild and BE. And i have found my Gaping Spider to be a great companion and better then some BE pets of equal levels. As a master CH i can kill a lot of what i run into. Just not PvP and not Krayts. You may be expecting to much out of your pets. They are helpers not weapons

1. My datapad is filled with friends and companions that used to be pretty darn powerful in combat, before they were ruthlessly beaten with a nerf bat. As I've stated before, I have an irrattional attachment to my natural tames. I suppose I should get a BE monstrosity to tank with, but even with a BE pet, they're just speedbumps. I can tank better than my pet now when buffed and armored. Take on some melee skills and buffs and armor don't even matter.
2. CL 26 is all I can call right now, otherwise, yeah, the gurreck or the GSH would be out doing the tanking. Or the CL 65 durni.
3. They're all just so much three hit meat for someone to casually destroy in PvP anyway.

You have your opinions and i understand that im not going to be able to change them. And really the scout forum isnt the place for it. So spend your points elsewhere i'll just be here with my 10k/6k/4k CL19 kin60 Cu'pa gathering resources. We each have our opinions and we should discuss them in a non-flaming way. Which so far this thread hasnt become that way. But you and I are both on very different sides of this issue. I agree they arent the light 75% graul mauls of old. But you adapt to what you have.

you can master scout/ master ch/ and master one combat profession. I pick swordman, due to the fact that it's has blast damage and ap3 power hammer. As for CH, most of the time, i found myself tanking for my pet instead of the otherway around. Anyway, I choose ch 'cuz I wan to RP w/ it, after master scout, I might pick up tracking tree of ranger, then again I might just take the meditate and defense line of TKA and not master scout at all
