Cig,
You need to look at the stats.
If it says something like "+25.4% Mind costs" it means that it reduces your mind cost for special moves by 25.4%.
You you are rifleman, look for the ones that reduce your speed. You'll go through them like crap through a goose.

i thought +25.333333332% mind cost raised the cost on your mind. Never used them though, for that reason and there always some long decimal point like that

+25% to mind (or action or health) reduce the Ham cost of the gun (the plus means its better for you). If you are looking for fewer misses, look for something with a + to either point blank, ideal range, or max range (depending on where you tend to shoot from, and where you are getting your misses at). As Delta said, there are also ones to increase attack speed, as well as min or max damage, and some to increase wound chance.Generally the better powerups will give you two to three bonuses, with higher percentage increases. Since they are always a percentage increase, you should pay attention to your guns basic stats to know which will help it the most (a max damage increase on a laserrifle would be better than a min damage increase)They each grant only 100 shots, so I tend to go through them pretty quickly on my pistol, and a little slower with my rifle, but if you find some you like, stock up.

Cig,
Every shot you take uses it up. If you want to take it off, you can remove it by using the radial over the gun.
