It really should. It is an ablity in the Survival column, you get better at it as you go up, and its almost worthless if it doesn't. Does anyone else think the same thing?

Leo,

I think everyone agrees with you. I submitted it as one of my top issues to the Devs last month.

The problem is that giving XP for forage is easily exploitable - AFK macroes, and the like. So they are reluctant to do that. Check the Devs responses to our issues posted above.

So unless we can figure out a way to do this to make it non-exploitable, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

delta my suggestion would be 10xp per item per success so that the most you would get would be 30xp. then add to that a timer like the one artisans have for sampling like 30secs or so and even make it interactive. that way there is no afk and the most you could expect per minute would be 60xp and more likely 20xp. this little bit would help without being exploitable. good hunting.

Well currently you can only have 4 successful forages in an area. No matter if you forage 1, 2, 3 items at once or get the "special" forage that never fits in your inventory....once you hit the 4th success that area is dry. I haven't tested the exact amount of time it takes, but the area will regenerate items at a rate of roughly 1 per 5min. So there's already a minor deterant for the macroing. I'm sure if it that isn't severe enough other measures could be put in.

Guys,

These are all points that I have made. I simply get the feeling from my conversations that this isn't something that is going to happen anytime soon.

I'll let you know if this changes.

evan that is not true. i have foraged for 20+ items in the same spot while in camp. if it says there is nothing in the area to forage i keep foraging and 2 or 3 tries later i meet with success again. check out my post on forage experimentation posted somewhere around here.

Wellnine "There is nothing in this area to forage" messages in a row sure seems odd. Maybe the item regen is much faster who knows, but you deffinitly cannot successfully forage perpetually. Maybe with lower forage skill the failures will string out the regeneration time from your last success and make it seem like it's possible to forage non-stop. Maybe this just needs more testing, /shrug.

I've gotten more than 4 successful Forages in an area before as well. However, once i recieve the "There are no more..." message I stop. I've never tried foraging after that.

It appears as if I should start trying.

/sigh ... I'm not saying you cannot forage successfully more than 4 times in a spot. What I am saying is something like this:

-that each "area" has 4 forage slots

-if you earn a success, no matter what kind of success, a slot is emptied

-a timer is started, and 2.5-3mins later that specificslot is filled again

So if you say get 4 successes in a row, you will not get a success for another 2mins or so. If you fail a lot between successes, it will seem like there is always something there. This is the way I think it works. So yes, I suppose you can forage in a spot forever, but you cannot expect to get something every other try.

It is my understanding that foraging did give xp in beta but was taken out because it was so easily exploitable. You could forage all day and just eat/destroy what you foraged. At least that's the explanation I got near the end of beta. I didn't get in beta til after it was removed.
