Do they fail because the traps are to low to affect the tortur? (I use the traps from the first tier in trapping).

That's right. That, and your trapping skill may not have been high enough.

The general tip is to throw one of EACH kind of trap you can make (assuming that you are higher than the first tier of trapping). Odds are that at least a few of those will hit.

Probably, I've found that the only effective traps for tortur are adhesive mesh (trap 4).

If you only have trap 1, you are probably need to set your sites a little lower. There are numerous posts here on gaining trapping xp. It might be a good idea to review them and see if there is anything there that will work for you.
