This might seem like a silly question, but where do I find the polymer I need for the adhesive mesh trap? I was assuming it could be surveyed for so I search the bazaar and couldn't find any. Then I thought maybe tailor's make it, but I couldn't find any that way either...

Am I just looking in the wrong places?

Check my From Novice to Master Guide for this info. Polymer is an Inert Petrochemical, and you can usually find it on the bazaar.

To get it yourself, you need Novice Artisan skill and a chemical survey device. Otherwise, check the bazaar for Inert Petrochemical (Polymer). Like Brisc said Depending on the server and planet, you should be able to get 1000 polymer for 2-3K credits. If a schematic calls just for any "chemical", fiberplast will also work.

If you want to buy just a small quantity, look for someone surveying and ask them if they either have a small quantity to sell, or if they would go dig you some up.

I don't think the stats of materials matter now, so just buy the cheapest you can find. Hopefully, they will change this in some future update. Scouts should be able to make more effective/longer lasting traps based on the materials, experimentation and their skill in Trapping. Doesn't seem to be working that way at the moment.
