Thread: Maskscent really supposed work like this?
/mumble Blasted enter button.
Anyways, as I was complaining... er... saying, I see 5 red blips on the radar. It's ok I have maskscent on and their lowly little kreetles. I run by and get "You receive 9 points of scouting experience."
I get the message 5 times because there are 5 creatures my mask scent just worked against. Right?
So tell me why the hell when I just successful masked scent against them they still break it right after and come after me!?
Hafoc,
There is something hinkey going on with Maskscent and Kreetles. This is the one animal that we know there is something weird happening with.
I am trying to get Dev attention on the general issue of maskscent once again. I have identified it as our top issue right now. I'll let everyone know when I get an answer back.

I just usedkreetles as an example. This happens with any aggressive creature. I get scout experience for
each successful check, yetthe creatures I just successfully checked against, may still break it. It's bogus!
No wayshould theybreak maskscent after being successfully checked against.
Haf,
Are you sure? Could it have been another creature in the group that got you? Are you getting 5 spams for points and then getting attacked when there are only 5 creatures in range?
This is a new twist on the problem, if you are getting aggroed after a successful check.

The whole maskscent vs. kreetle issue has a chance of being a subjective observation rather than a real problem. I'm tempted to say that there is something different about the success check (roll) of maskscent against them as well.
However, it's also possible that we see them break maskscent more often because we encounter them a lot more (at least on Tatooine). Since I spend most of my time on Tat, my encounters of aggro critters is probably 3 to 1 kreetles.
As in any game based on the D&D mechanic of "dice rolls", any aggro creature theoretically stands at least a small chance of success in breaking your maskscent. Ideally, as CL increases, so should that chance. If anything is broken, it's likely the scaling factor assigned to kreetles. For some reason, they have entirely too high a chance against maskscent.
Subjectively, they seem to break it a lot more often than, for instance, squills. Of course, I'm paying a lot more attention when I'm around squills, heh.
I'm pretty sure that when there are 5 creatures on a screen, and I successfully check against all of them,
getting 5 messages stating so. If I hang around long enough shortly after one of them is bound to break it
soon after.
I'm going to try and do some tests on this in the morning and add some screenies for proof. Stay tuned.
BTW I'm 0 3 3 0 in Ranger so it's not like I'm a newb Scout either so this should definately not be happening.
