Thread: Species affects on Scouts

After having played SWG for a bit, I have come to realize that there are indeed better species for different professions. I am wondering what type of species everyone has chosen and why they chose that particular species.

I chose to play as a Bothan because of there inate ability at camoflauge, but that seems to be a null ability now. Also, I get outrun by Humans/Zabrak/Wookies....actually, I get outrun by every other species. I know that I can probably take them up a hill, but that doesn't help me when I am trying to outrun a Plains Hunter. I have adopted the rifle as my primary weapon. I won't go into the rifle issues since that is another whole can of worms.

I am not looking for a "Flavor of the Month", but I am looking for how well a species works with the Scout/Ranger line. Also, what your primary means of fire power is would be some helpful info, whether it be a rifle, pistol, carbine, brawler or creature.

Thank you for any input.

I have played swg sicne beta, over all i find the Zabrak to be the choice species when using scout, yes wookies get the bouns to there tameing and bothas get a bouns to mask scent, but Zabraks also have the Equalibrium ability which maks all your ham pools equal each other, which is about 800, there mind pool replenses fast enough that you can take away from some of the secondar stats and invest them into other(but dont take them down below 400).

if you wanted to think about it from a sw standpoint, wookies should probally be the best scout considering they all grew up in tree top cities.

Currently i Use both Pistols and Rifles, i use a Power4 Pistol, a Laser Rifle both slicend, exlusively use Headshot2 and BodyShot2, im currently use a mix of Adhesivn mesh's then usally follow up with glow wire traps, noise maker, bone spurs. Also i have a mountaine Krevol that i use as my tank.

im planning on going up scouth and ch from here and unlearn un needed skills as needed.

im undecided on if i will pursue rifles or pistols or go up to noivce rifleman and novice pistolteer and stay at that. either way from here i can use either headshot or body shot 3 eventually or stick with 2 and mix and match with the situation.

I tried both a Wookie and a Zabrak on other servers to see how they did and I must agree that te Zabrak seem to be the natural scout. The mind regeneration they have makes them an almost perfect fit for Rifleman. I may indeed start from quare one again and change over now that I see that Bothans have no real edge at all, not to mention how slow they run.

Scout,

Well, the Bothans do a get a maskscent/camo modifier, so if you want to be stealthy that helps.

I'm a generalist, so I prefer being human. It also helps to not get a negative modifier to my faction points.

Of course that only a problem if you blindly follow atryannicaldespot andwant to joinhis xenophobic regime.

But seriously, the racial bonuses can help your character be better at certain professions. To me however, they are just icing on the cake and shouldn't an over-riding factor. I'll admit I'm more of a role-player than a min-maxer, but I always wanted my character to be human and he isn't a second-rate scout because of his species. Of course forthose that have no real preference one way or another it can be a deciding factor. All in all, the system is as it should be, each species has a speciality (or two), but species choice doesn't limit yourprofessionsin any way.

Hey Scout, don't give up the Bothan. That was my choice because, 1. I like the whole Bothan Spy Network thing, they are small and nimble, and the naturl bonus to camo helped the final decision.

I have had no problems with my character. I have done very well at Mask scent, especially when it used camo, and with pistal being my primary weapon, I never run out of action. The Bothans have a large action pool, and it regens faster then a zabrak's mind pool. The only problem I run into is my low health pool. 99% of the time I get incap it's from my health pool.

It's funny you say you get out run. Even onl flat ground I usually outrun most all others. I play with a friend who is Trandoshan TK and I keep up with him on flat groun. I have one theory to this, and if you are using rifle mostly this may apply to you. If you watch your character animation when running with a pistal(or nothing) and with a rifle, your legs move much slower with the rifle. My theory is that we actually run a little slower if you have a rifle equiped compared to a pistal, or just a one handed weapon. The rangers I usually run with are carying rifles, all species, and I outrun them. The TK I run with, who is carying nothing or just knucklers, keeps up with me.

Just my thoery, haven't actually tested this. But the Bothan Ranger rocks. I'm shoot almost exclusivly use specials when I shoot, and trhow lots of traps, I never die from running out of action.

I wouldn't discount the Bothan advantage. While other species are always complaining about maskscent breaking, about creatures aggroing them too easily and about things like conceal shot not working, I can pop of conceal shots all day and I don't even bother bypassing most herds of red anymore because they generally leave me alone.

With the caveat that I have not played scout with the other races, I would heartily endorse Bothan. Just be prepared to look up a lot.

I play a very small Rodian Scout (my Bothan is a Chef!)

I've never had any issues, but I don't look for what is best at this or that. I find races that I like, and make the best of what I'm given. I'm not very weapon advanced (Novice Pistoleer) but I've never had a problem with HAM and specials, I just max out the regen pools. I also dabbled a bit in Unarmed, and did surprisingly well.

I have also never had a huge issue with my mask scent. My biggest problem is being able to see over countertops

Maybe I should just catch a shuttle to Rndor and see how well Maskscent works. My main problem is that I wanted to aspire to become a Ranger/Rifleman, but the Rifleman part seems to continue on it's downward spiral to the Plane of Neverending Gimpness. I guess that my original plans have been put on extreme hold although I am still advancing.

I guess I will pull out my dusty Striker and work on the Pistol line just incase rifles continue on the Gimpcoaster.

Thanks

Zabraks Look like human and do not have a Negative faction penalty(no should they considering they have a sith/zabraks working for them prior).

Im Zabrak and im a Master Scout, and im going Ranger and CH and Rifleman, so far using enough Spice, food, drink that could kill a torton im able to equip a full set of composite, heck today i got my str/sta up enough to make my Ham regenerate while in combat, too bad Headshot takes from mind pool, it doesnt really regenerate as the only stat i have trouble keeping positve is focus which is usally from -600 - +40

Sorry, i dont mean to sound like a fan boy but, sw fanboymode-no not really i just work night shift doing tech support so i tend to read the data bank alot when there is nothing else to do-,you should check out the Zabrak Historical Society, http://www.hyperjump.net/zabrak/ for information about Iridonia, the planet is self and even the Zabrak culture is very close atraining camp for survival.

when zabraks hit puberty they go though a rites of adulthood, which is tailor'd to the zabrak by the parents, although any self respecting zabrak will not tell you what they had to do, since its a personal thing, its usally something that is supposed to either make or break you.
