Llamma,

Thanks for resposting this. It may not be good for camping anymore- we've got reports of some new anti-macroing stuff since the last update - but its good for traps, armor, and other things you want to macro that don't have console commands.

1 go to game options and turn off auto-afk

2 make a bunch of camps...fill up your tool bar except the 1st slot upper left.

3 make a macro and add this list

/ui action toolbarSlot 01; /pause 5;
/ui action toolbarSlot 02; /pause 5;
/ui action toolbarSlot 03; /pause 5;
/ui action toolbarSlot 04; /pause 5;

I tried this method when I was going through the survival branch and didn't like it. Its too slow. Camps autodisband in an hour or so. You can get at least 3-4 times that if you just walk back to your keyboard every 10-20 minutes, disband and deploy a new camp. Plus, now that you get XP for crafting traps and camps you can do that while in camp.

I didn't like the setting up in highly populated areas either. If people just walked through my camp I didn't know when I could disband and hit my XP cap.

I found the fastest and best method for survival is to camp for 10-20 minutes. While you're there craft traps and more camps, sample, forage. I would do this when I was AFK but, near the computer. That way I could earn valuable survival XP and spend time with my wife and baby daughter; or catch up on household chores.

well yeah of course if you're around the house you can disband your camp...

but when you go to work or school...it's always nice to come back to see that your character leveled up a very tedious tree.

LLama,

Just be careful. AFK macroing is a violation of the EULA. Don't get busted.

that is funny that there is a rule against that watch out for the next patch I hear you have to reagree to a new eula that states

107) I hereby agree to not have any fun in any way, shape, or form SOE will ban anyone caught violating this.

Clark,

Man, if you think AFK macroing is fun, I need to give you some beer. Quick.

There is a huge debate as to what macros, precisely, are against the EULA, and thus bannable.

The above posted macro, the most common sampling and dance macros, even the crafting macro posted in other forumsall use the macro tool provided IN GAME. None rely on third party software that simulates mouseclicks, or keyboard interaction (which is my understanding of what the EULA is referring to).

Some things that people use these macros for are to just speed up a painfully tedious process, sampling would be a primary example. That has got to be one of THE most boring activities in game (even with the 'super spiffy' events they added).

Honestly, if they don't want people to macro, then they should remove that option. Personally, I set up camp, browse the boards, and periodically bounce back to reset my camp. I get xp at a reasonable rate, and I'm not racing to get to the end, so it's fine with me.

Perie,

I don't want to get into an argument here, because I really don't care about this issue, but for the sake of clarity, the EULA specifically states:

"...you may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play..."

There are plenty of uses for macros that aren't for unattended game play. Those include trap macros, combat attack macros, training spam macros. Hell, my wedding was done using all macros.

I just don't want anyone to get in trouble for doing something that really isn't that useful anyway. That's all. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying know the consequences of what you are doing and weigh if the risks are worth it. That's all.

Its not that tedious. It was actually the very first skill I hit level 4 on. I did all this before they gave you XP for crafting traps and camps and even before they decreased the max XP cap time.

It may help some people (I never found it to work that well, I'd sometimes find I was logged out and hadn't accumlated that much XP). I can't do this during the day because I usually play the game during my lunch hour at work (being a computer programmer has its benefits).

I guess its all how you play, though. I'm not a grinder anymore. I just do what's fun. Grinding is so boring. I just take what comes to me. I want to be a BH, but, I have like 15K combat XP left. So I picked up Novice Ranger and Novice Creature Handler, I'm building up Medic XP. That 15K combat XP will come,I know it. I know how to make it really fast, but, its just not fun. So instead I'm dabbling in some other professions. I really want that nifty Ranger high-tech field camp, but, I'm not going to grind it out. I'll use camps when I need them.

Everyone gets so caught up in where they're going and so single sighted that they forget to have fun along the way. Then when they get to where they are going they are disappointed. As a wise man once said, "It's not the destination, its the journey."

Well, maybe not the first time. But I've said it.

CLimbing Survival in the beginning days was tough.... So I'd grab my timer and set it for 22 minutes.

During that time in the camp, I would have my character Macro sampling. Those were also the days you had to go out 2k from dearic just to build a tent.

I'd drop a camp, then load up the Godfather DVD collection for inspiration on how to live my character and eh, it was kinda like watchin home videos of family reuinion. just less guns.
