Thread: Auto Harvesting? Whats the deal?
Ok, once you kil a creature you get the ability to "Harvest" the corpse.
When you use the radial dial you see three options (usally), Bone, Meat, Hide. You pick one and harvest.
If you highlight "harvest" and DONT pick one of the three options above you default/auto harvest. Using this method never gets you Bone, usually Meat or hide and sometimes Meat+Hide.
Why is this? Do I get more if I select a certain one over the others vs. auto?
Anyone explain explain this? Kinda confused, since auto would imply getting all three types if available.
DS9,
There's really no such thing as "auto-harvest". The radial dial provides you with the ability to choose what you want to harvest - not selecting something means you get whatever it decides to give you. That's not a bug - it's just the way the system works. There's an easy way around this: select what you want to harvest. It takes an extra third of a second.
Not every creature has all three - some only have meat and hide. Some only have meat. Spiders, for example, don't have bones or hides. Chubas don't have bones.
If that is still not good enough, check out my From Novice to Master Guide for how to set up a macro that lets you harvest a specific item - meat, hide or bone - from a creature with just a push of a button.
You don't get any more if you select - you just get to choose what you want.
And you can't harvest a bit from each type. It's all or nothing on the one that you want to get.
Hope this helps!

You can also setup a macro (that's what I do), I have one macro for each type:
/harvest meat
/harvest hide
/harvest bone
That way I dont have to even use the radial menu ... I just hit the hotkey corresponding to what I want and it's instant. Be aware that there is a bug where if you use this method and try to harvest something that doesn't exist on the creature, it will "count" as you having harvested.
I've also added a /loot command to each of my harvesting macros. You know, just in case. I also have a simple /loot macro for NPCs.
All are remapped to my 7, 8, 9, and 5 keys on the numbered keypad (bone, hide, meat, loot, respectively).
