Ugh pressed enter too early...

Anyway, I have all of the scout tree except survival. I have about 20,000 survival exp left until I can get novice BH. However it seems rediculously slow, even when I make camps for 20 person groups on Dathomir. Does anyone know of any quicker methods? Any certain town that might have a lot of surveyors around? I really wanna make novice BH by the end of the weekend.

I'm no expert, but Survival seems to be the toughest skill around in which to gain xp, in my limited experience. I know of only 3 activities that give a scout Wilderness Survival experience: Making camps, disbanding camps, and fishing.

Since the harvesting change/bug was introduced, it has become much harder. The higher level camps take a lot of skins to make. Making camp gives paltry xp, as well. The devs have also significantly reduced the xp granted players by setting a camp and leaving it up until max xp can be gained from disbanding it. I think I can safely say that camps offer no route to fast WS xp. I get about 40 xp for making a MP camp. I have to leave it set for 30 mins. to get max. xp when I disband it. That gives me 621 xp. So that's 661 xp every 30 minutes. Without a calculator, I'll estimate that to be 15 hours of non-stop camping in order to get your 20K xp. It might bet better when you can make better camps, dunno.

The one advantage camps and camping experience has is that the activity can be effectively macro'd. The only other activity that offers WS xp is fishing. I haven't tried it, so I don't know how fast you can get WS xp from it. From what I've read about it, I don't believe it can be macro'd. It's not like EQ or UO, where you cast your line and the game takes over from there (i.e., 30 seconds later, you automatically reel in and the game decides if your fishing attempt was a success). You have to interact with your fishing poleusing mouse clicks.

If you have no problem with macro's, then camping seems to be your best bet. Getting the hides and bone for 30 camps is your necessary first step. I don't macro, personally. But then, I'm not trying to get to BH as fast as possible. It's your game, imo, and you have to right to macro if you so desire. I'm not sure what the position of SOE is on this issue.

My grind through Survival consisted of sitting in camps 20 minutes at a time. Now, you can also make camps and traps for additional xp. I don't think that it is yet possible to fish from a camp yet, whch would yield more xp still, but I could be wrong on that point.

Also, where you set your camp is as important. I watched two scouts set thier camps up one each side of the big bridge right outside of Theed. Everyone usinf the bridge must run through both ccamps to do so. It was very original. I am not sure how much of an xp boost they were getting, but I imagine they did get some.

Good luck

Fink,

The ideas from Dega and Scout are good here.

The only thing I would add is to get a good book.

Survival XP is the hardest and longest to come by - despite the changes. But perservere because it can't take forever.

Maybe I was one of those scouts by the bridge, I set my cam up at the base of the bridge outside of theed, I meet people, train, heal etc time goes by quickly every 20 min I start a new one. Make traps and camps while you sit, play with your stat mitigation, meet new people etc. It is not that bad, try getting through 70K of rifle and pistol that is mind numbing!

My last steps through Survival were actually my most exciting. I ran out into the plains of naboo in search of Fambaas. Having maxed out everything except for Survival I found a Fambaa spawn point and just started going to town. They'd incap me once or twice and do some decent amounts of damage, I'd then finish them off, run a good distance out and camp.

I'd start by healing myself (because it adds to the overall XP) and then craft a bunch of traps that I'd need to use when I went back for another Fambaa. It took me about awhile, granted, but the good thing was that as I went I was getting some good hides and rifle XP.

I say find a Strong Red Con and test your might... then go heal.

I basically made camp and had my wife sit in it with me while she made her food thanks to her MSE-6 droid with the crafting station in it. Then I could do whatever needed done, like cut the grass, do the dishes, etc. When she wasn't around, I would make the camp, then go watch TV for half an hour. When the show was over, disband the camp, make a new one, and watch some more TV.

Camping is horrible, and camping IV is the worst. Though when you save camping for last, it means you probably have a ton of scout points stored up. So when you get Camping IV you can go to Master Scout (if you have the apprentice points) and then Novice Ranger immediately. So I went from working on Camping IV to being able to make high-tech camps all at once.

Since I took Ranger just to use up some points on my way to another profession,it's quite refreshing to camp only when you need a camp, not because you need XP.

The single biggest trick to getting Survival XP is to do something while in camp that damages you, then allow the camp to heal. Go grab Novice Artisan and locate a good sample spot, set up camp, and macro-sample for a bit...I can generally get the full XP from a multiperson camp within about 20 minutes or so. Key is to heal in camp, I think...it's still a grind, though. Just got mine last night after about two weeks' (very casually) playing.

Crafting traps willgive wilderness xptoo. If you want the fastest way - that's it. Depending on your level of scouting xp (and attendant stock of resources), just pick whichever trap you have the most ingredients for. You'll get 2 xp per resource, so adhesive mesh (35 I think) will give you 70 points per.Still will take a while, but if you sit in a camp while you craft, using multiple crafting stations, I bet you could get 20k in 3-4 hoursgrinding ad mesh. As with all grinds, though - you gotta have a hunk of resources to begin with.

I think i have found something.

IfI heal normal damage (not wounds) in a Basic Camp i get about 100xp from almost dead in all pools.

If i have wounds and heal 5 points (takes a few minutes) from one pool (all other have zero wounds) i get the normal heal 100xp plus another 50xp or so.

Yesterday i had wounds in ALL pools and healed 10 points in all pools (took under 10 minutes) and healed full normal damage i got 350xp (I think that is the cap for Basic Camps).

So try to have wounds in all 9 pools and lots of normal damage (forage while in camp for action damage).

I have to do some more calculating, but my first impression is that wounds make a lot of difference.

I can't believe I'm suggesting this: go fishing on Tatooine.

Yes, you read that right.

I went fishing on Tat, after a friend found a place (I read about it here on the boards and had to try it out). I caught a fish every time I threw in bait. Every. Single. Time. Maybe I was lucky (most likely). Maybe I have the galaxies greatest pole (also somewhat likely, considering it has an effectiveness of 98%). Maybe I'm more patient than I should be (probably, but I was also enjoying the new Storyteller DVD, so I don't know). All I know is that I was pulling them in right and left, and all of a sudden I gota fanfare, and found that I now qualify for survival 4. Yippee.

Now all I need is a trainer.*grin*

It may be a different game now, but survival xp came very quickly for me. In the second week of the game fort tusken (north of expa) was a hotspot that sometimes attracted up to 200 people at a time. It took me about 3 hours to complete WS 3 and WS 4. I just pitched a new tent every 5 minutes. There was tons of people around and it wasn't uncommon to have 60+ visitors to my camps. I also played music while camping to help attract peopel to my camp. I have no clue if there's any hotspots anymore that attract so many people, but using lots of people is a good way to go.
