Thread: Stop Giving Away Your Harvests!
True capitilism works.................honest
It sure does. But it requires market transparency. Knowledge is power. Now that you know how much profit is made from your resources, you're in a better baragining position. You're welcome. ![]()
Please don't think for a second that this game is in any way a free market or capitalism. If it was, I could walk up to a crafting station and make my own armor, no certification required. Do you think that might make armor prices drop, just a little bit? ![]()
I'd like to hear more about this, especially from some smiths.
Don't hold yer breath waiting for the smiths to chime in about how rich you're making them. ![]()
It may take longer to find a buyer but that is just rediculous they make so much profit while I'm just scraping by.
In the end, the economy will even itself out as more hunters decide to chuck it and become crafters. But in order for that to happen, people need to become aware that they have more pricing power than they know. Start a thread on your Galaxy server informing other hunters that there is more profit to be made with harvests.
We've got to stop thinking in price terms of 3, 6, 10 and start thinking 10, 20, 30.
Okay, I took a look at some Armorer schematics and have made a rather startling discovery.
As an example, on my server with its current pricing structure, an Ubese armor jacket sells for about 7900cr.
Know what the cost is? 1770cr.And I made that calculation by figuring all mineral resource needs at 3cr per and all hides at 10cr per, which is definitely higher than what these guys pay in bulk.
That's a430% profit! So the next time a crafter tells you that 30 cr hide is a ridiculous amount and that he'll just go out and get his own, let him.
When he tells you that paying that much will drive up armor prices, don't believe it. You could charge 50cr per hide and he'd still be making a fortune. It only takes 50 leathery and 30 wooly take make the Ubese jacket in my example.
Stop giving away your harvests at bargain basement prices. We should be charging 30cr per hide, at least, for anything with even a smidgen of quality.
I say we all stop selling hide, meat and bones for a week or two and see just how many crafters decide to spend endless hours in the field, gathering their own.
I think that selling low quality stuff at 3 or 4 credits a units is fine for grinding material. A lot of our material is used just for that purpose. But a lot of high quality stuff should be selling for much more than what you see on the bazaar.
When calculating how much an item costs, you have to figure in a little for vendor maint now and their initial investment for grinding material which will vary depending on the self made merchant and the PA made merchant.
Also, never sell to resellers. I'm sorry.. I know that some of these guys are just trying to provide a service to the community, but selling any type hide for 2cr per unit so they can resell at 3cr is a joke. Make your own connections and use the bazaar, but stay away from these guys. They only make it harder on us in the long run. They're like Wal-Mart running us mom and pops out of business.
Jmatt,
We don't even have to stop selling them.
The harvesting bug is increases our rates for us anyway.
And crafters aren't the only ones who use our harvests. So jacking our rates up doesn't always work.
B
To both of those party's I sell it for 1cr/unit no matter the quality or stats. No problem for me
I have been advocating this for quite some time. While I don't want to screw the community, I do want to see Rangers compensated accordingly.
Keep in mind that we have to pay for travel, camp kits, traps, camo kits, weapon/armor repair and spend hours/days hunting, crafting and camping to harvest the hides. And with the resource harvesting being nerfed at the current time, getting sufficient quantities will be more time consuming than it used to be.
For example: About 10 of us Rangers went to Endor last night to gather some resources. At a cost of 8k apiece, we are already in for a hefty amount of 80k. After several hours of fighting, dieing, camping, fighting, dieing, camping(rinse & repeat), we managed to get maybe 5k of resources. Assuming we were there for some HQ resource, the minimum price would have to be 16cpu just to break even!!! And that's not counting the extras mentioned earlier or any compensation for the long hours getting it.
So what do you do? Sell the resource for 4 cpu and give everyone 2k credits for their hard work? Take less people and therefore take longer to harvest? Or just know that the next few days will be spent hunting to be able to harvest enough to pay for your trip home?
As leader of the Ahazi Antarian Rangers, I have always proposed a price structure based on qualities that would be fair to all.I have used one quite successfully for a long time. I believe that most crafters would also support one that would compensate us handsomely and yet still allows them to make a hefty profit.
And if they don't? Well, let them get their own resources then!! The way harvesting has been nerfed, we will probably need the resources ourselves anyway just to keep making camps and camo kits!!
What's your thoughts on the harvest reduction, B? I think it's the best thing to happen to rangers and scouts, economically speaking, in awhile. How 'bout you?
Right now, I can't get enough hides or bone to supply my own needs. I don't care if the market price goes to 50 cr. per hide, I won't be selling any. As it is, I have to do without traps to build camps, and vice versa.
Maybe the Scouts who have passed into the Elite tech tree are still harvesting and selling, dunno. I know a lot of them just leave the stuff on the ground unless they need the Scout XP. A great many are just climbing their way to Creature Handler, and aren't really interested in collecting and selling hides and bone. If they need a little money, they go do missions. Once they get what they need, it's right back to building their CH.
Anyway, Delta has done all he can to get this fixed. See his post on the email he sent to the dev's on the subject. I think there is going to be a growing swell of resentment over the lack of hides/bone/meat in the game. I hope people will come to this forum and actually read about the issues we are facing, and see why the supply has dried up.
I think the problem is most people dont understand or dont even look at the overall quality, potential energy, taste etc of the meats/ hides they are harvesting. A hide is a hide and meat is meat to at least 75% of the people in this game. The doc's can get tons of avian or herbivore meat on the bazaar with an OQ of 925 and PE of 955 for dirt cheap because the person selling it has no idea what they have. They figure they will put it on the bazaar and just 'hope' it sells. I agree that prices are way down on our resources...hell, I used to destroy the stuff just to get it out of my inventory or give a slew of it to some novice scout to help him out with some camps. I am now trying to be more selective in the materials I harvest from what animals. I talked to several doc's earlier today and asked what they pay for their herbivore and avian per unit and most say that they get it given to them! For avian mentioned above at 925 oq the best offer I got was 3 c/u. If this is the case...why should I even bother searching for the animals that give the best resources? I might as well hang outside of any city and just plink at the first creature I see. If they want to pay trash prices, i'm going to start selling trash meat....thus the doc's will have trash stims...you get the point.
On another note...I did a profession search and found 4 rangers besides myself to include two other masters. I asked what they were selling their meats for and you guessed it...NONE were even selling them!! What needs to be made is a list of what each profession needs. Ex...docs need this kind of meat, armorsmiths need this kind of hide etc. This way we will be able to contact the the people who actually want that type of resource instead of making stacks of 1k and selling them for 3k to whomever on the bazaar.
IMO the bazaar should only be used for selling crap meats to the grinding BE that does not care what the quality of the meat is. The problem is, there are so many 'crafters' out there who are not really serious about the quality of their product...or who relate it to 'luck' when they create something good. There are a few master weaponsmiths, master armorsmiths, etc that just about everyone on the server can name by name. They get like this for a reason...they buy quality resources and make quality wares. Until the rest of the crafters start caring and/or learning about their materials, and the grinding scout and ranger start selling their product for what it is really worth...we are stuck in a 3c/u market. I personally have put a freeze on all my sells. Not that it really matters anyway cause someone will sell them what they need. Looks like when my wife finally makes BE she will have some awesome meats to experiment with!![]()
Sorry for the long post and hope at least some of it made some sense...
