Thread: How Do YOU Complete Hunting Missions?

I needed that Laser Carbine.

I really did.

And I found it on Naboo the other night and bought it.

Then I found this red, reinforced workshirt with black trim that I thought would look so good on my scout I just had to have it (she's hawt now if you can get over the fact she spends days in the wild without showering elbow deep in gnort and nuna entrails).

I'm totally broke now.

Of course, because Scouts don't make a lot of monkey I've been struggling to get my income level up. I've got about 3000+ units of animal resources up on the Theed Bazaar ranging in price from 3-5cr/u depending on quality but its just not selling (not like it would on other planets I've hunted...I think I may leave Naboo this week if poor sales continue).

I ran a coupla "pizza deliveries" for some quick cash and am sitting on a comfortable 4000cr but I want more while my sales fester on the bazaar. I fired up the Explorer mission terminal for the first time in weeks and BEHOLD there were 4500cr hunting missions. I accepted one to go slaughter 40 flesh eating chubas for some farmer near town but...wait...no waypoint?

Huh?

Where's the farmer's land?

Where are the Chuba's he wants exterminated?

I'm confused.

I abort the mission and find another.

This time for 3000cr I need to wipe out a Nuna infestation.

Again no waypoint.

No starting location other than the vague "688M NW" on the terminal screen.

So my question is, how do YOU complete hunting missions. I'm assuming that I'm supposed to go kill X numbers of Y animal anywhere I can find them? It seems kind of silly IMO if that's the point of the mission. Am I correct in my assumption because, honestly, if I'm going to spend all my time wandering and looking for animals I'll go to corellia and kill butterflies in the "Newb Zone" for an hour outsied Tyrena and sell the hide for more than i'd get on the hunting mission.

You're right ... you need to kill X number of Y creatures where ever you can find them.

Ok ... I just have to say this ... this has been discussed before ... little search on scout and ranger forums does do wonders.

Not that it matters ... at least I got legimite reason to post in scout forum. Post count + 2

Trick - Find an explore mission that says you have to kill 45 beasties that you know will be on the regular mission term as a destroy mission. Example - wild durni on Corellia. At the least, you have one spot you know there are wild durni, go get em. Patience, let the lair spawn all it wants, kill them all. Ok, lair is dead, you have 10 dead durni. Oh wait, you have a partner with two wd missions... woohooo, go kill them, now you have about 30 or so. The two of you go get 3 (the explorer mission is still open) missions for wild durni.

Now, in order for you to get credit for the beasties with a partner, you must hit each one at least once. Simple... you initiate fire on targets, let parnter help ya.

At some point, you get 45. A bonus payment, as you were killing them anyhow.

Hope this helps

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/search?board.id=scout&q=hunting+missions

A "little search" for "hunting missions" doesn't yield very good results.

In the 1st page in that search my question was not answered. The common question is "where is the best place to hunt on (planet) for (resource)?", "Where can I hunt for (animal/resource)?", "Anyone want to get together to hunt krayt dragons?" and one post discussiing masturbation using Garbage Pail Kids cards as stimulation. Reading thru 15+ posts and not getting an answer is not a "little search".

Never assume someone doesn't do a quick search unless they are asking something that is answered on page 1 of the forum they are asking on or is something that has been asked and answered on a regular basis on said forum. In the last 3 weeks I've been following the scout forum and this subject has been neither asked nor discussed as the main theme of a thread. Needless to say after reading the above search this morning for 30 minutes I had to leave for work, decided to pop my question up and see if I got an answer during my drive to the office where I could check the forum again. It worked. I got my answer.

Funa,

Actually, you don't even need to do a quick search.

The answer is in my "From Novice to Master" guide, stickied to the top of the forum.

I'll quote it for you:

"The new Explorer mission terminals are excellent - they provide us with a monetary incentive to do the things we already do. Some of them can be very tough, but they can also be a great way to get out and see the planet. There are two types of missions - hunting and recon. Recon is exactly what it sounds like...you get paid to take the mission and run out to the Waypoint. Once you get there you are successful and get the cash award. Generally these missions are 3k to 5k away from where the terminal is, so expect a good hike. The hunting missions are much more difficult, but provide better compensation. They require you to kill between 15 and 45 of a certain type of creature. Be careful: they are EXTREMELY specific. If you get a mission to kill Spineflap Soldiers, you can kill Spineflap Guards until the cows come home and you won't get any credit. They HAVE to be the same critter the mission calls for. Each time you kill one, you'll get a spam letting you know how many more you need to kill to complete the mission. The other difficulty is that you don't receive a waypoint for the mission - you need to find the creatures yourself.

The higher end hunter missions can go for 10k credits and above...so while they are time consuming, they also are very lucrative."

And guys, don't jump on people who can't do a search - I read every post in the Scout forums, and sometimes when I'm trying to go back and get a good idea and repost it, I can't find it - the search feature really isn't that great. (Which is why I try to add the best ideas to my guides).

Delta...hehe...I've got a copy of your guide printed right here in my "Binder Of Life" that I keep things like source code printouts I need to debug while waiting my turn for a haircut or sitting in the doc's office.

I understood that for some missions it indicated I was to go kill X numbers of (animal) where ever I can find them...

...but...

You have to admit it does seem silly in a way and might be a minor point to take up with the devs if you have a backstory indicating a location and are not given a destination. For example: (anyone reading Hunting missions will recognize this) "I had an infestation of X on my farm and so I introduced a natural predator, Y, and now the Ys have become a pest and I need you to exterminate them". Missions like that are confusing because, the role-player such as myself, is looking for the farmer who needs help. I guess I overthought those missions. The kill-em-all missions I understood, its just the ones with inferred locations that had me confused.

I get it now.

I will proceed with the making of monkey tonight at the explorer terminals.

PS: Because of the scout forums I actually wrote an e-mail at work about our new software product's first month of income that stated: "If this trend continues we will be looking at a lot of monkey by the end of the year."

FUna,

Nice! Monkey making is back on top again!

And I'm glad to know that my guide is becoming "bathroom reading" (as I call it). I was actually reading one of the Droid Engineers' guides in the barber shop yesterday.

Brisc's brother Wilsc is going to be a DE.

Anyway, I'm glad you got that straightened out - and I agree...if they are going to create some backstory, it would be nice if it weren't just BS.

If you're at a point where you can pull level 13 or 14 missions from a terminal, head over to Talus. Go to Nashal, to be specific, and get yourself a jungle fynock explorer mission. They typically pay 10k. Then hit the mission terminal for a jungle fynock destroy mission. They're usually within 1000m of the terminal, and you can take out about 8 or 10 per lair. You'll get roughly 1600 credits per mission. I can do these in roughly an hour with my pet if I don't stop to kill anything else on the way to and from the lairs. Depending on your luck, that's 4 or 5 lairs, which will give you between 6000 and 8000 credits, plus 10k from the explore mission. PLUS...if there's a decent leather hide on Talus you get some good resources to boot. Overall, not a bad way to spend an hour I'd say.

At first I had problems with hunting missions as well, the manuel is lacking is several places. Just be careful what missions you accept, not all creatures listed in the hunting missions are available in the destroy missions, at least not on Rori. And even then I usually have to unequip my weapons when looking for destroy missions to get similar creatures.
