Thread: trapping xp?
If you're just planning on trapping for XP only then just craft nothing but Wire Mesh Traps. They only take 3 hide, 3 bone and you can throw the same trap at the same mobs 100's of times for normal XP each time it lands.
You can either find a real high level and slow mob and take the extra risk for higher trap XP or you can just find a blue con mob and throw traps at it untill you're almost out of health and rest. Rinse and repeat.
This is a good idea, and one of the ones that I've suggested to the boys as well.
The only consideration is that Wire Mesh traps aren't going to be effective on the largest creatures. You'll be able to smack a Bantha with one, and all the Gnorts you can carry, but when you're up against a Raging Fambaa, A Raging Torton, or a Singing Mountain Clan Rancor, they're not going to hit.
We had a novice scout out with us during TMBs recruit Fambaa hunt, and he threw 50 wire mesh traps at the Fambaas we were hunting - and he only hit 3 of them.

Right now, the BEST way to earn trapping exp is by doing a kamakaze run.
Get some wire mesh/glow juice/glow juice wire mesh traps, and find some smaller red cons (like narglatches and such) and just spam them till you die and come back. If you're going to do this, I suggest to take your armour off so you don't break it just trying to earn trapping exp.
Of course, this is only the most effective if you're cloned.. then you're just a fool, and you'll have to spend a long time in the med center.. I don't know why most people don't clone, it makes everything so much easier.

I think that has to do with trapping skill, not the trap you use. I think a novice scout will have problems trapping any highish level mob.
My vote is for Crazed Durnis also.
You can get destroy missions for them from Doaba Curfel (sp?) on Corellia. You'll have to refrest quite a few times, but they are there. I always get the to the SE of the city so they are down in the plains by the rivers - it makes it much easier to kite them around.
Here's what I did. Get about 45 meters from a crazed durni and then queue up 3 traps. After the second one is thrown just start kiting the durni around (run around in a big circle around the nest). Everytime the durni gets 30 meters from you queue up two more traps. Rinse and repeat. I was using my starting CDEF pistol to shoot at them because it did very little damage and took forever to kill them. On each durni I could easily throw 25 or 30 traps before it would die from the pistol. If you throw 30 traps at each durni (and they all hit) it would be 30 * 79exp = 2370 trap exp/durni. On average I was probably getting 1500 to 2000 exp per durni after misses, etc. It only took a couple of hours to go through the toplevel in Trapping.
