Thread: Trapping xp Fix?
But look for that to be the fix to this issue. And JB you know Im a fan of yours. But its broken in its current form
I don't think it's broken, I just don't think it's working as intended for the respec people.
If you have a new person - the intention is to have the person gain weapons, scout and trap xp on each hunt. If you run a noob, it is totally possible to gain more trap xp than weapons per kill, and scout xp is easy to get. This would raise the CL of the player with the rise of levels in trap and scout. Weapons would be the one lagging behind. Killing NPCs now and then solves that.
Using multiple traps means your trap ability would go up first, and as that xp is not shared, you could max trapping quickly. Except no one is using traps as a rule in the beginnging and they are all screaming about it when they realize they messed up. Sorry 'bout that people. Use traps all the time and traps will max first.
(Note - I maxed traps out first in Scout and Ranger. I carry 40 traps as a basic load when krayt soloing. Use them, learn them, love them. )
The respec people are a different story. Everyone wants TN (scouting) and everyone wants Harvesting (scouting) and no one "needs" camping or traps as they will "be easy to get". D'oh. The 8 boxes Scouting and Harvesting raise your CL well above what you can effectively trap. Never mind any weapons boxes. Now these people are trapping CL 1-5 beasts while they are CL 50+, 0ne xp per kill. What is strange is when they harvest the Scout XP is standard and they quickly get camping. D'oh, more CL there too. Compounding the problem.
So yes, I think it is working as intended. Trapping level 96 creatures gives a decent amount of trap XP, trapping level 5 creatures gets me 1. The game is now CL oriented and people need to realize that. Further, not using traps from the start, or failure to get any trap on the respec will only lead to a long tedious grind later.
Traps are a wonderful thing. You can solo about any creature you can trap. Learn which ones to use, when to use them, and you will kick big butt. You really want to know how many Krayts I have solo'd? Upwards of 100, minimum. Pick a level. 4 Ancients yesterday alone. All because I use traps. Get in the habit.
JB
I do not think the only people who should be allowed to go Ranger are the newbies who start from scratch. Everyone should be able to try it.
In the CU Beta the developers ran into this problem with weapons xp. If a Master Rifleman wanter to level Fencer he could not because the weapons he was allowed to use did not do enough damage to kill the creatures at his level. The fix for this was to remove weapons certifications from skill boxes and make themdependent on level. If you are a level 50 character you can use a level 50 fencer weapon, even if you only have one-handed one.
Now they need to catch up and create a fix for trapping, which is having the same problem.

Seriously, (and I do mean for this to sound rude), you're an id|ot.

Have to agree with the above post.
I find myself playing less and less each day, because I can get next to no trapping xp. An eventual fix doesn't mean squat, that's what they say for every broken ability or bug.CSR tickets are meaningless because you never get an answer unless you count 'Thanks - we apologize - have a nice day - ticket closed' an answer.
My two accounts are rapidly approaching the point of termination, because nobody seems to give a rats @ss about trapping xp. Except for the players, but the players don't really count, do they?
As for JB... why don't you drop your master ranger and try it? It's a whole different game then. 'Just pick the right trap and kill krayts'. Funny.

I sincerely hope you aren't talking to me. Did you even read my post?
Perhaps listening to the rantings of an elitest boob like JB is a form of entertainment for you but for me I take it pretty personally when some one through indirect and subversive means attempts to verbally exclude a large segment of the population from a profession because he deems them to be"to stupid" or simply not worthy enough to be included in his eyes. As if some one had elected him the grand decider of who is and isn't worthy or something.
If your post wasn't directed towards me, then please ignore this post and I apologize for wasting your time.
P.S. Just for the record, I actually am some one sitting at 4044scout/CL80 with plans to master ranger, who's patiently waiting for a fix for trapping xp to come into effect. I mention this justso that we're clear, I infact do hold a stake in the matter, as I'm sure many others do as well.

I actually see that it is doable, after hitting trapping 3.
But only because I dropped 60 combat levels, and because of Pop-tARTS.
Use one bug to counter another. Any bets on which one will be fixed first?
We are a bit harsh on the subject, but think about it -
a csr won't respond to a ticket.
A bug report doesn't give the appearance of fixing anything. Sure it helps, but I do a half dozen reports a day.
There is no mention of trapping in the pub 19 notes, or under test center information.
We cannot respond in the announcement forum.
We can't get answers in the chat room.
If we don't vent someplace about it, then people will just end up quitting.
/end tantrum

I understand your frustration with trapping. I do not understand the need to personally attack another person, or bring down the tone of this forum. That goes for you and JB.
If there is even a fix for this issue besides removing trapping xp. Which, sadly, is the way I still see the devs band-aiding this issue.
