I swap between novice scout and novice artisan depending on what I'm up to, noticed that I couldn't search lairs when I wasn't scout - only tried a few. Didn't see anything in patch notes, could have been a bug or a certain type of lair?

I was under the impression that this was always a "anyone can do it" thing. I'll have to check on it.

If a lair's already been searched by someone else then the option won't come up. It generally takes me a long time to find a lair that is searchable near a major city -- I imagine that this is someone else has already searched it. So, it might be possible, esp. if the eggs in question had good stats, that someone else searched all the lairs that you tried.
