Thread: Droid Harvest Module

You know what I'd love? A Droid Harvest Module. This Module would be placed into any droid that can have a Storage Compartment. Then, whenI kill a MOB, it would scoot over to the corpse and Harvest Materials. Since any player in a Party can Harvest, it's not Ninja-Harvesting, and simply put would make my Scouting life easier.

Finer Points

- A Harvest Module can only be used in conjunction with a Storage Compartment

- Materials harvested by the droid are placed in the droids Storage Compartment

- A Player may set a droid to harvest Bone, Meat, Hide, or allow the droid to choose at random

- A droid will only travel up to 64m away from its owner to harvest a kill

- A Player does NOT receive Scouting XP for droid harvesting

In order to use the droid you would have to group, dropping your harvest to 60% of the norm. You really want to pay 40% of your harvest to let a droid do it?

You would have to be grouped, or the droid would have to shoot at least one shot into all your kills in order to harvest.

Good idea, once you get past the40% less part. And IMHO, grouped is grouped - if you ain't alone, you are grouped, be it pet/droid/player/NPC/yer aunt Tilly who watches and knits, it's a group. The Devs tend to think the same way also.

Yes, because at some point I will no longer need Scout XP, and I don't want to wander over and harvest every mob before attacking the next one. Color me lazy, but isn't that what droids are for?

You do know that corpses stick around for a bit as long as no one harvests them, right? So you can kill the entire wave and then go harvest. Or you can pick up a melee profession and be there for the harvest already. As for the droid idea, it would be fun to have one. But I wouldn't give up the full harvest for the convenience. But that doesn't mean that you can't do so. I'd say the main problem here is that, if grouped, some people might not get to harvest the corpse if they are still fighting and your droid wanders over. The corpses last a lot longer unharvested.

I'm somewhat ambivalent over this idea. I understand it can be a chore to "clean-up" after your kills, but I've had a need for this. My only real problem witha droidlike this is itcould lead to an unintentional flooding of the organics market. Using it the way you intended would be fine, but this could really change the dynamicsofharvesting organics. It seemsthat with a simple"AFK combat macro"peoplecould have their characterskillingandhaversting "yard-trash" whilethey areat work, sleeping, etc. Even if mostcurrentScoutsorRangers don't do somethinglike this, I can seeasomecrafters creating "harvesting mules". In my humble opinion, there needs to be a way to prevent this!

Also, I know it's somewhat implict in your post, but you really should add that you need at least Novice Scout to use these modules.

I like this idea great idea i would also like to add .

If droid harvests the owner cannot harvest as well making it a double harvest. other than that its a super idea and bot I would pay nicely for. I kill em it grills them rinse repeat =)

Well, at the moment there is nothing keeping players from flooding the market as it is. AFK macros are prevalent, and players can macro in harvesting just as easily as looting.

If my dream ever came true and AFK Macros were abolished, then I would say have the droid stop functioning if the player goes AFK. This way the player has to actually BE PLAYING for the droid to be functioning properly.

heh yeah I'm sorry, It would be for scouts only and run off of their current Harvest skill. I figured this would work like the upcoming Entertainer Only Module.

If we could convince the DEVs that a droid without a combat module shouldn't apply the 40% penalty when grouped, this would be a great idea. It could work in the same way the MED droids work. A droid could be given a "Creature Harvesting 110" Module that would boost our harvesting ability when we were using it. I don't suggest using it to "clean up" and do the harvesting for us, rather I think it would work nicely if it just gave us a boost to our current skill MODs in the same way medical droids do.

The key here is simply convincing the DEVs to try and create a distinction between a combat droid and a utility droid when it came to grouping and harvesting. It would be almost exactly the same as the Smuggler droid bonus, the med droid bonus, and the entertainer droid bonus.

Just a few thoughts...

Is harvesting such chore that, it would be worth all the reduced harvests and potential AFK and flooding abuses? Auto-harvesting is as easy as auto-looting to add to a macro, but it does not mean we need to facilitate it.

The 40% reduction is fine with me, If a player is going to go through the extra effort, he should be rewarded for it.

I would also be concerned whether this would be used by non-scouts. The recent camp change makes we wonder if SOE want so just allow everyone to be a novice scout without paying the 15 skill points.

Personally, I have a little macro loaded in f12 of my primary toolbar that DBs, Loots and Harvests. I kill whatever and hit the my finishing macro. At the very worst i need to walk over and select the corpse. After about a 100 times or so you get in a rhythm and it becomes automatic.
