I was thinking that I need a good, strong stamina for all my trap throwing and special attacks I'll be using with my Pistols.

What kind of state migrations have you all done and what were your reasons?

Thanks.

well traps do take action (if I remember correctly), which can be really painful if you're a pistoleer, so you might want to adjust your stats that way, but I would say that you should probably adjust your stats in favor of the combat profession that you choose. As you get more powerful combat-wise, you'll find that you do not need traps that much. Well, at least my experience is that traps like phen-dart and adhesive mesh, which are very useful against lone creatures, really don't help that much against the social creatures that you start to take on when you're a ranger and have better combat skills.

Not to disagree with you, you may be correct, but I don't ever remember losing action points for throwing a trap. If I did, it was probably so insignificant that I didn't notice. And beleive me, being a carbineer with a 75 point action HAM cost on specials, I watch that very closely.

Actually, I use my traps at the beginning of every fight... I throw three. Those three throws zaps my action pool down 30%. That sux since my pistol shots "Health shot" and such take even more....

So at the end of a little skirmish... oh, say a Gubbur lair (gathering hides for a friend... at 20 cpu I might add<smile>,my action pool is blown and I'm needing to sit and recuperate.

yes... throwing those traps affects my action pool in a big way.

My guide talks about this.

Honestly - at this point in the game, if you're going out and doing any kind of hunting, do it buffed.

So migrate all of your stats so that you've got the maximum mind pool you can have, and balance willpower and focus.

This is your best option.

Mind? Out of all the hunting I do, nothing ever seems to effect my mind in the least. Seems like my health drops like a rock followed closely by my action... but mind doesn't seem to get touched. Why would I want to raise my mind? I was actually thinking of dropping my mind and adding to health and action.

I should explain my play style a little I guess. I like to role-play my character. Makes the game more fun for me. I don't use buffs very often because the few times I have, I have been disapointed when the buffs run out. They give me a false sense of security that I'm not happy with being out in the bush all the time. Not fun having my buffs give out in the middle of nowhere, especially when you're surrounded my critters that, only aminute ago were perfectly killable... only to have your buffs drop off and find yourself running for your life.

My character is more like... "Hey have you heard about that wierd woman that lives out by the ancient arches by the lake? Yeah I heard she sleeps with sludge panthers and lives on gubbur skin and humbaba milk! She's not one I would want to come accross in the dark of night out in the bush! Gives me the chills just thinking about her..." ...that's the type of persona I want for her. Only coming into town every once in a while to sell hides or hop a shuttle to a remote planet for a rare hunt. She doesn't want to have to rely upon anyone for anything. Just her wits/knowledge/stealth to keep her breathing.

I don't do any PvP... and probably won't. I could see having heavy mind with PvP... but why do I want it with the lifestyle of the crazed hermit trapper woman that "can skin you alive with her bare fingernails".?

I hardly ever even wear armor. LOL... just my black leather trench and my boots... now, if I could only find someone who can make me some leather thigh-highs!!!! ...with combat soles of course. <smile>

Ranger requires no additional stat migrations. Basically, set your stats up for your Pistoleer. Traps, camping, harvest etc do not take up any HAM resources.

Migrating stats into mind will help you a couple of different ways. Even if you play pure PvE there are a number of animals that will take pot shots at your head and do what they can to incap you there.

Picket's for example will slam you continously atop your melon if they get the chance. Having the extra points there... and not worrying about mind buffing... will save you in the long run.

Even if you stay in PvE but engage in the the GCW / Corvette / Thug battling there are many NPCs that will drop the occasional mind bleed or Headshot on you.

The beauty of the current H and A buffing system is that most weapon costs and attacks are pretty quickly regenerated especially if you have a good set of armor to back them up.

Course this could all change in the future.
