Sure your rancor can probably kick serious a but...

When I bring my cat hunting I'll shout out "A" and instead of attacking anything my cat desides to just sleep over it

and I say the same thing go get your own hide and bone!

Pet commands are both caps sensitive. And single letter commands dont work, for me at least, with tellpet. Which is why i always use at least a two letter command.

You must have to enemy selected, press the correct key, and make sure the command for attack isn't "Name attack."

The ONLY time you should use one letter commands on a pet is if you're in the TTR mode.

For long term creature companions, I have a suite of attack commands, macroed to my toolbar, preset for specific combos. True, as a totaly gimped CH (0/0/1/4) I have no need of them, but someday I'll again be an MCH commanding two ferocious kitties and a large dinosaur that acts like a puppy at the same time, and I'll need three attack commands. Send one pet into tank, the second to just inflict damage, and the third in reserve on guard if the target realizes who is pulling the strings.

Best bet is to give you pets one word commands, then use /tellpet to issue them. If you want to get really fancy, you can put together some macros that encorporate gestures and emotes to send them on their way to bat around a Mauler or a piket. My trick one command for my dewback includes an emote of me yelling 'Hiho Huey, away!', which is of course an absolute natural for the dewback and savage humbaba trick one.
