Thread: Explore II Mask Scent XP Works!!
I've read in a few places to not even bother with Explore II Mask Scent.. Just keep harvesting through to III. So I started doing kill missions 2k into the 10k required for Explore III. I pulled two missions in the same area and I happened to get Kreetles for one of them. Kreetles are like overgrown sand fleas.. very easy to kill, most of the time I one-shot them. And they are agressive.
Before I started killing them, I decided to give /maskscent a shot even though I've heard it's a waste of time..(which I agree with all other mobs I've seen except Kreetles).
I used it, and moved in on the camp and got 4 kreetles to notice me but one gave 106xp. I tried a few more times to see if it was a fluke and I got xp about 1 in 4 tries.
This is what I came up with for getting the most xp by maskscent from explore II.
Clear everything around the Kreetle mission for 100-150 meters.. this can be a pain especially as new camps pop up around you.. But those being higher con mobs will definitely spoil it for you as they see you turn on mask scent.. so make sure it's clear..
Then run back and forth between the 75 meter distance and about 40 meter distance to the closest kreetle.
I found it best to come in from an angle where the majority of the kreetles were lined up perpendicular to me. This allowed me to get 4-7 chances at xp as my mask scent hit all of them.
It also seemed to help when I came in from different angles over time.. or took a few minute break to clear any dwarf nuna's that popped up, etc..
The thing seems to be that you want the highest concentration of kreetles there possible.
At one point, they seemed to be getting spread out, so I killed the straglers on the outskirts, then popped the lair a few times and a bunch popped out.. I then ran like heck to get away. Came back and the nest was filled with them.
So I was getting xp about 1 in 4 shots.. sometimes with 1 106xp, and other times I would 5 106xp. I made my 8k in about an hour and half.
So it does work, but you have to find the right mob and conditions around it.
The downside is that, after I got Explore III, I was convinced I'd really do well now.. so I got 2 Kreetle missions and ran out and instead of 106xp, I get 13xp. So now I have to find new mobs.
BTW: this was on Tant out of Mos Eisley.
Anyone have any suggestions for Explore III mobs that are best for maskscent?
I've heard Yavin is good, but the ticket is pretty steep.
Anyone know of a mob database that lists some sort of level/agressive nature?
What's your species? Are you a bothan? My mask scent is detected by almost everything... even when the radar says there is nothing near me.
Mask Scent seems kind of inconsistent to me. I ran from Mos Eisley to Wayfar using Mask Scent all the way last night and for one application I got well over a thousand XP. But other than that one, I got detected right away almost every time. Note that I wasn't doing anything fancy, was actively avoiding all the mobs, and was just running from point a to point b. Anyone know what factors influence success?
Yes, I've had the same experience. Everything I masked near detected me. However, i think Kreetles just happen to be low enough that mask works with them.
And yes, I was getting xp over and over from the same mobs.. Just moving in and out.
If this had been one Kreetle, it would have never been worth while. I would have been better off doing kill missions and harvesting. But because there was 5-9 of these things, it greatly increased my slim odds of sucessfully masking.
It was pure pleasure whenI saw4 lines oftext tellingme I got 106xp for each. But by far, the majority of the time, I got you were detected by a creature. But it was still faster than harvest. Yet, I didn't get as many bones/hides doing it this way.
