Some advice for those of you that are looking to become, or are already in the process of becoming a scout. (feel free to add to this).

1. Get Medic: You can use the hides/meat/bone your harvesting in addition to inorganics (I use a chemical survey device to get mine while in a camp - see below for more details) to make stimpacks. Using these you can greatly reduce your downtime between kills. You can also use /tendwound in your camps to increase the amount of time your out in the field before heading back to town.

2. Max exploration before hunting. Yes I know the allure of mass quantities of dead animal skin in your pack has its own appeal, but the added bonus of Mask Scent at an effective level of camoflague (both skills granted in exploration) will greatly aid in your goal to become the Harvesting God of SWG aka the packrat.

3. Here is a quick hunting guide for everyone:

If you are working on weapon/combat xp - try to go for white con critters if you can.

If you are working on scout xp go for mass killing blue con - you will not only get hides bone etc faster, but the reduction in the xp is easily offset by the rate at which you can kill them.

4. Using Mask Scent: This skill is only for those red dot mobs (aggressive) although the normal yellow dot mobs (non aggressive) will still cause it to fail on occasion it actually does not affect them. Below is a rough idea of how I have found it to work the best:

a) Find some red dot mobs (agressive) and put them at about max range of your radar (128m).

b) Hit the Mask Scent hotkey (you did hotkey this already right?....right!?)

c) Slowly start to walk towards the mobs - if you get the message along the lines of "the animal has detected your prescence despite your camoflague attempts" then it means that the mob see's through it. Back up to max radar range (128m) and rehit the hotkey then try again.

d) You know when it works because you get free scout xp for nothing.

** It is my experience that the level at which you first get Mask Scent (Level 2?) it is junk, dont even bother with it - for the rare time that it may work at this level you could have killed 100000 mobs and grabbed hides worth much much more xp. Dont start worrying about using Mask Scent until you have Explore 4 in my opinion although at 3 it works not too too bad.

5) In your early years of your life having Medic and Entertainer can help alot - you can heal your own wounds and your own mind wounds while sitting in your own camps. This works even better if your in a group since you can make medical, survival, and entertainer xp during your downtime. (Dont worry you can always drop the skills later if you need the points - why not grab them at the start to give you a head start?)

6) Kill missions: My step by step guide to kill missions (not an original guide - plenty of people have already posted this but I want to try and cover all the big things here)

a) Get two kill missions in the same direction from town (check the details since this will tell you the mobs you will be facing. ** For those with explore 4 and good mask scent - i recommend mixing in some "diseased lair" missions since you can earn additional free scout xp from the purely red dot (aggressive) mobs these lairs spawn.

b) Get to the waypoint and start clearing all the appropriate mobs. Once all the mobs are dead fire ONCE at the lair and then immediately hit peace. This will cause any mobs that spawn to stand there doing nothing (unless aggressive).

c) repeat step b - clear all mobs, then shoot the lair once and hit peace. If no mobs spawn withing 5 - 6 seconds, chances are your good to unload on the lair and kill it in peace.

** This will require some patience since white con camps tend to take a bit longer to clear, and have tougher mobs - just think of it as a personal mob dispenser until it clear, at which point its a money target. Dont rush and you wont die.

Thats about all I have for now - if you have any questions or if I really botched something up feel free to add / ask.

In regards to 4c ... what if you are Bothan? Is it then feasible to use maskscent at explore 2, or should they still wait?

Im not really sure on the point differential myself, but I do know that Bothans get a bonus to their camo. What does a non-Bothan get at Exp 3 and Exp 4?

Bothans will have better luck at 2 then the other races, although it still isnt really worth it until 3 even if your bothan.

The amount of work and time required to gain meaningful xp from mask scent isnt worth it in my opinion.

Tip: Once you get Explore 3, invest in round trip tickets to Lok. Keep MaskScent active as you run to the volcano and back. Avoid all combat. I got over 15,000 scout xp and saw some really cool stuff.

Something not metioned in you great post that needs to be put up here.

Explore tree and hunting tree both take scout xp.

When both bars are green it dosent always mean you can train both skills at once. I get this all the time when I train people. Look at your amount of scout xp before thinking you can train both
