Thread: Scout XP Curve
I have been playing the Scout for 14 hours now and have yet to make Explore III. This is without investing in Hunting also, so my only scout skills are Explore I and II. At this rate is will take over 100 hours to make Creature Handler...Is this how its supposed to be. Atleast make blue cons easier to kill, I'm averaging 2 minute kills on blue con Ikopis.
Adjusting some of the larger creatures would help a lot. I dont want to "bottom feed" but right now I have to because I can kill a Deseased Nuna with 3 shots and get 42 scout xp, but it takes about 15 shots (and about 2 minutes) on a Ikopi and I only get 50 scout xp......whats up wit dat?

You are a scout, use traps.
At novice you can make 2 traps, use them both every fight. Even if you do not need their effects, use them both every fight so you get maximum xp. It should not take more than an hour or 2 to get to trapping 1. Four hours maximum if you take your time and mess around doing other things. I was four hours myself, but I was also working on pistol, rifle, surveying, artisan skills, survival, and all the others --- all hit 1 about the same time: ~4 hours.
At trapping 1 you can now make bone spurs, and glow wire. Use the bone spur which reduces the creatures mind bar alot (light blues almost all of it). Use the glow wire if you use ranged combat, wire mesh if you use melee. In either case, throw the bone spur and just hit the mob a copule times and it is dead. I have been taking out dark blue's in about 10-15 seconds. 1) Throw bone spur 2) Use mind shot (rifle) and creature is dead in 1 or 2 hits. Harvest everything, make a macro (/loot; /harvest hide; -- or /harvest bone or /harvest meat or just /harvest) and use the macro as soon as creature dies. Much quicker than using radial menu. the time it takes me to find harvest in the radial menu I can hit my harvest macro and have another mob dead and harvested.
Bone spurs probably should not reduce the mind that much. Also the description says "health and mind damage", I am seeing0% health dmg, and 99% mind dmg on blues. They also changed the xp if traps do most of the damage you still use to get full weapon xp as if you killed it entirely with yoru weapon of choice. This has been fixed (as it should) so in the above example I was only getting 2 rifle xp per dark blue kill.
Every night since the last week in beta until now things work entirely differently every day so take this with a grain of salt! Hard to tell what is a bug, exploit, or how it is designed.
Ok. First of all, you don't get Bone Spurs until Trapping II.
I started Yesterday, and I currently have Exploring I,II,III, Trapping I,II, Hunting I and Survival I,II.
I also have Pistol I,II,III and Ranged Support I,II.
Yes, the XP curve sucks. Yes, it takes a long time to get to Explore III. The bone spurs trap is useful, and so is the Trap you get at Trapping I that makes targets vulnerable to ranged attacks.
Also, once you get Exploring II, don't foget to use Maskscent. Yes, it is not going to work often, but it is well worth it when it does, and doesn't cost you anything to use it while running around on missions.
Ditto just made trapping 1 and I can make bone spurs.

Yeah Trapping II is stink bomb and noise maker... noise maker + bone spur is a nice mind bar lowering combo...
