Thread: Why does Surival suddenly shoot up 5k extra for IV?

It doesn't make sense to me since all 4 skills follow the same exp curve. At lvl IV the other 3 require 15k to master and survival requires 20k (an additional 5k over the other 3). Yes I realize that some skills have different requirements (ala ranged support in the marksman line is completely different then the other 3 exp wise). What doesn't make sense with survival is, it follows the other 3 scout skills completely all the way up to the final level. Is there a reason the developers make us get additional survival exp or is it some silly bug they will fix in a month from now?

To master Survival skills, it will require, 'a lot of time' in the wild, meaning a lot of campsites. Hunting and Exploring use the same XP, soyou actually need 30k to get both of those. And, really, a trap is a trap... you shouldn't need all that much to advance.

Justification... sure.

hehe nice explanation.. (:

It still doesn't make sense why they did it that way. Also it has to be the most boring of the 4 skills to get exp in... why couldn't they have chosen traps, or explore, or hunting... argh!

It's annoying but not so bad, just remember to always have a campsite up if you're not on the move. If you're doing any artisan surveying or sampling, do it in a camp. If you need to go AFK to make yourself some munchings and crunchings, do it in a camp.

Survival XP is probably ramped up so high because you literally do nothing to get it (in theory) but sit on yer arse.

20k WS xp is not a big problem. It's boring but doable.

Just take look at what a ranger needs. That. is.much.

In only a few hours, I was half way there. I've got about 12-13k xp now. I think the justification is to stop exploitation. Not too tough to go watch tv or a movie, and come back every half hour and re-camp at 800xp a pop, while not *really* playing. Probably the same reason musician XP comes soooo slow... because plenty of people can set up macros and just sit there playing music while they go off to eat, or watch tv, or sleep. Unfortunately, it only reinforces the afk-macro-XPing behavior, and forces those not so inclined to do that sort of thing to consider it. Not a lot of alternatives though, really, unless you want to force AFK timers on people, and cut off xp when they are put in AFK. Of course, again, it wouldn't be so tough for someone to use an outside program to jog the mouse, or hit a key keeping them "active", and then you've still got the same problem.
