last night i picked up explore2, prolly first one to do it since everyone had been asking for it. but i immediately ran out to a gnort hutch (naboo rabbit looking things) and hit mask scent. I got the you mask your scent from animals message. then the skill would either drop because it wore off or an animal detected me, but i would get no xp. I did this for a whole half hour while crafting more traps (trapping2 baby, them bone spurs are something unfair, i tell you what) and i got no xp.

Anyone able to tell me is mask scent still gives xp, or if i was doing something wrong. I was standing and roughly 30m from the hutch.

I found out why there are so many multiple posts of no-build zone camping issues, there is not search button on these forums

grelgen,

I could be wrong, but this is how I've seen my mask scent work: I only get XP when it is successful. Usually what happens to me is the same as what you described -- the trick fails and I get no XP. However, there are times when I use it and successfully walk by a group of creatures and I get a message "106 Scout XP".

As long as you only have Expl II, I think this will be how it works.

ok, so should i walk out the 64 yards or what ever distance and then mask scent and run through their camp? Ill try the visibility tricks (going prone) and see what happens, thanks

If you hit the button a second time, you get the "it wore off" message, even though you actually turned it off. Make sure you aren't double hitting the button.

It's definitely the aggressive thing in the stated scenario. Gnorts aren't aggressive. And the creatures need to be to get the exp. Did this lots in beta -- sure made exploring easier.

also realize, that maskscent will 99% of the time NOT WORK until you get to about lvl 4 (explore and hunt)...after that it works great...

the creatures have to be aggressive and they do "checks" for maskscent at about 62 m away and about 42 m away...

I believe if you are Bothan you will see much better results from Mask Scent as early as Explore II - In my travels on Lok I picked up about 1500 Scout XP in about 10 min running through masses of aggressives - I only had failures about 20% of the time.

Peace

The creatures have to be agressive for it to work. Also, your camoflage skill affects the success rate, so if you aren't Bothan, it may be tough to get maskscent to work at Explore II. After Explore III, the success rate should go up because you go from +5 to +15 camo. Of course if you're Bothan, you shouldn't be having any problems with maskscent.

Mask scent doesn't work too well at Explore II, and I doubt u were first, seeing how I'm explore IV =P. It works really well at explore III on imo.

With Explore II, I found that I was getting maskscent XP from light blue con agressive creature. It was about 50% XP/ 50% them uncovering me. When I tried a white con agressive creature, they uncovered me 100%. Maybe you have to stick to the easy ones at first?
