This is what I do for attacking things. I get in range, kneel, and doubble click on the creature. I keep attacking it by default and it runs up to me and attacks me. I may throw the occasional trap. Sometimes i run away and then turn around and shoot again.

Am I missing something? I'm new to the game, please help.

If you get some marksman skills you'll be able to perform special attacks as well. Hit ctrl-a to see if you have any.

Once you get intermediate ranged ability you get a special called threatenshot. This is what I do to solo mobs (i use pistol btw). Get in range about 55m or so and crouch. Do threatenshot and immediatly follow with a bodyshot then contiue to plug away till its dead. Threatenshot makes the creature kinda stumble around for awhile till it figures out where you are.
