Quick question:

What do you think is better to aquire 1st: Hunting 3 or Exploring 3? Since the Scouting XP counts for both, and you can only pick one or the other... I am wondering which is better to get first!

I suggest you go with Explore. In fact, I went to Explore IV before going past Hunting II.

The reason I say this is that I felt that you get more out of better terrain negotiation, burst run and camo (ya right) then you do from improved harvesting.

Preference really. get more hides from animals or run faster over terrain wit a higher potential for escape from baddies and better cammoflage rating?

I'd go with exploring 3. That terrain negociation can save your life.

Always take Exploration first. The increased speed uphill has saved my butt many times.

All,

I was in the Explore camp as well.I made it to Explore IV before finishing Hunting II. However, I reversed my long standing trend when I got up higher in the Ranger qualifications, as the creature to-hit bonus looked a little more enticing than being able to run even further and even faster than my friends when grouping. (I'm sure they all have macros set up to tell me to slow down!)

Like the others said, it's primarily a toss up. You'll be faster and more stealthy with explore and you do get maskscent modifiers with Explore. Hunting, you get creature to-hit bonuses, creature knowledge and better harvesting. For me, the maskscent was always the edge that put me over the top, despite its obvious flaws.

Now that I'm further up, I've flipflopped - not the first time either. I was gung-ho pistol whileI was working up through the ranks of scouting (and made that a prominent feature of the guide I wrote) but now I'm in love with my laser rifle.

Don't get too caught up - there are bonuses and drawbacks to everything.

Hunting III, here, to-hit bonuses and harvesting net a lot of money over the long haul, and (unverified, but it seems to) get you more XP in the process.

Hunting III

A) Harvesting is your prime source of scouting XP in the first place, hence you wanna max it out. Also more resources from harvesting is always good, you'll be able to turn a nice buck selling it to players.
