I really enjoy the scouting profession (hunting, trapping, camping) and I especially like looking for new creatures and figuring out the best way(s) to bring them down. I've been keeping a kind of list of the creatures I've encountered and have been wishing there was an in-game way to mark this.

This led me to think about the possibility of scouts/rangers being able to create pelts of the creatures they kill (instead of harvesting). After you kill a creature, another radial menu selection appears that says something like "make pelt". Your ability to "pelt" creatures could be tied to the hunting tree: Hunt.I would let you do the most basic creatures and as you advance, you could make pelts out of more difficult creatures. I think there would be a market for these too as decorations in houses. I for one, would love to have my house adorned with my quarry.

I also think that pelts should only be made if a player kills the creature SOLO. This would function like a hunting "badge" and I don't think a scout should get a scout for zerging along with 10 other people. That way, when you see a plains hunter pelt, you know someone EARNED it.

Just a little thing that would add to my long-term interest in the game and extra incentinve to see the rest of the galaxy.

Off to solo that fambaa....

I forgot to mention that this could be an instrument to provide scout XP for exploring different worlds. Maybe each time you make a pelt, the amount of xp you get is related to the kinds of pelts you've already made and you get an XP premium if your pelt is rare compared to your collection (or prior "pelting" history). If I've pelted 15 nunas, and the base XP for pelting is 70, then if I leave Naboo and pelt an equivalent creature my XP could be 140 and then regress as the numbers ofnew pelts approaches my nuna pelting XP.

With 1500 avian bone stuffed in my pack somehow....

Kind of cool, but shouldn't a crafter come up with something like decorative throw-rugs? And in effect, if not as artistic, hides already perform the functions you've outlined, all except for an actual "Pelt", which I think would be a great idea. I think an old salty Ranger should be able to dress up his home with the trophies of his best exploits.

Hmnmm - a new elite profession. Taxidermist!! Heh. I don't think this would be worth the work involved, personally. I doubt there's a way for the game to track whether or not a critter's killed by soloing. Sure, it would be neat to collect the pelts of some of the more reknowned critters, but there can't be all THAT many out there. And when you say you're keepin a list of the critters you've encountered, what are you gonna do - collect a pelt from every single one?? You're gonna need a mansion to have enough walls to put em all up on.

Hmm-

Well maybe a crafter could transform a raw 'pelt' into something decorative. As it is now, once you harvest, your quarry is reduced to a general resource pool.

And no, I probably wouldn't display them ALL. But it would be cool to be able to browse my collection.

And I think the game is set-up precisely to track who does how much damage to what. If i kill something myself, I get a certain amount of XP. If someone else has already damaged it or is attacking with me ungrouped (there are different formulas for grouped), my XP is adjusted accordingly. Not being a programmer I can't say, but doesn't seem too much different.

Maybe a simpler way would be to make harvests of high level creatures a badge (maybe something like this already exists). Again, I'd like to see the ranger/scout have to do the killin' to get the badge.

I'm not sure what you mean by its not worth the work...development side or player side? And surely if I can store 100000 hide in a little box, storage space isn't an issue.

Well, whatever the eventual form of the prize, it would be neat to get a trophy off of some creatures, and frankly, I don't think space would be an issue, as you're not going to throw any old eopie on the wall, I hope. I also don't think soloing should really matter. Badges are specific things that don't apply to this (in fact, I'm not so sure I know how to get badges just yet...hmmm). Just a decorative mount would be nifty, but nifty is all it would be--I don't think it should be any kind of priority to the developers right now.
