I'll be honest... I just maxed out hunting this weekend. I really haven't noticed a serious increase in my hunting skills... I would suggest getting both to about lvl 2 then running up exploration. This way you have decent hunting skills as well as the ability to traverse at an excellerated rate. plus... though maskscent might not be granting xp it will definitely help you get around some of the stronger critters, not to mention burstrun...

As long as you're gaining some type of weapon XP, slowly climbing Hunting shouldn't be a problem.

Just my two creds.

I took Exploration I, then Hunting I, then Exploration all the way up before raising Hunting any further. Why? Terrain Negotiation and Maskscent. That hill behind the Theed starport is a pain without it, and even though Maskscent was nerfed, it's still saved my life on more than one occasion.

Hunting will give youy more hides/bones/meat per harvest. With Mask Scent broken, maybe do 1 more block of hunting then switch to Explore. I went 2 and 2 on the Explore and Hunting, then went toHunting 3before going to Explore 3 and 4.

All,

My reasoning is outlined in my guides (posted above for easy reference).

For Scouts - do explore first. The terrain modifier, burst run and mask scent are more important to you at this point.

I actually reverse this thinking for Ranger- but I have to hit master before I finish writing that guide.

Mask scent isn't all bad. At explore 4 with mask scent on I can get off 3 and sometimes 4 mind shots with my laser rifle in the kneeling position before they agro me. Without mask scent on I only get 2 shots. When running around killing blues for fast scout xp I can usually kill them without even kneeling because I still get in 2 shots before they find me. It doesn't sound like much but not having to kneel every time adds up to alot of xp over the course of an hour. Of course if your using melee then this won't be of any use to you.

I just became a master scout last night. My logic was that be getting the hunting first I would get better harvests. I did get more materials (not a ton more, but more) and the xp was really the same. Guess it is just up to personal preference. But I make a killing selling the wool hides and bone. So it was worth it for me to get better harvests.

Lucry,

Congratulations! Welcome to the Master Scout club.

Now that you've made it here, it's time to go to work. I need a hole in the backyard - 6 cubic feet. Start digging.

Any ideas what you want do now?

Since they are the same pool, which should I raise first and why? I"m sure this has been asked before, but I didn't find it looking thru the first few pages (at work so can't search all day *Grin* )

Thanks!!!

I do exploration, then hunting. I find the increases in movement rate and maskscent help me a lot more than being able to collect more resources from creatures.

That's my 2 credits.

Phew. Sure am glad that I made Master before Delta started assigning all of these tasks. That one with his grandmother in it was the worst. hehe.

As for which line to go with first. I believe a previous poster said it best. It's personal preference. Scout XP comes pretty fast so you'll have both before long. All though the Exploration line is probably the better choice.

For Ranger, as of right now, I would suggest the same. Wayfairing (explore) then Field Bio-sci (hunting).

Though with the upcoming changes to /maskscent and the introduction to Tracking to Rangers, all bets are off. /conceal sounds like it will make the next "publish." /tracking is may not make it. Or if /tracking does make the next publish, then I have a feeling that there will be alot of "issues" with it. (or people just plain whinning about it )
