I hope that vehicles won't be able to traverse the kind of terrain that we get mods for.. because that would suck.

I would guess that vehicles will disregard terrain for the most part. This would make the most sense. It really won't hurt us much either way. Vehicles will probably move quite a bit faster than running, so even if they slow down a bit, they will still traverse terrain better than a scout on foot.

As for mounts, I would guess it will vary from creature to creature. Some of my pets move quite quickly up slopes, while others slow down significantly.

Until they are released though, we won't really know.

Why wouldn't terrain negotiation apply to mounts and vehicles? I see terrain negotiation as more of a visual/mental skill than a physical one. Being able to find the best route through rough terrain. I dont see why that cannot be applied to navigating a mount or a vehicle.

Well with the maglev thrust type vehicles in the SW univers would ignore most of the terain that we see in the game. Should they be able to travers all terain? nope , not unless they are capable of true flight. As for mounts , well they are creatures and should suffer terrain penalties with every one else.

Well, you could read many factors into terrain negotiation, but what it basically comes down to in game is reducing movement penalties. Perhaps if falling damage were in, I'd agree that vehicles shouldn't be able to traverse ALL terrain. But as it is, travel is a time sink, and vehicles are meant to overcome a portion of that sink.

Being a scout shouldn't, IMHO, give any bonuses to someone for operating a vehicle. I translate a Scout's terrain navigation, to terrain negotiation. They have a keen eye for the environment, and can recognize natural trails, or solid hand/foot holds. This allows them to travel by foot over/through obsticles. However, when operating a vehicle, the conditions have changed dramatically. At which point a trained pilot would have a better handle on the vehicle.

I wouldn't mind if certain vehicles suferred movement penalties when traversing over certain terrain types. It should be depedent upon the vehicle though, and not the "scout" in the cockpit.

Yes, mounts should have their own terrain navigation skills that operate like a scouts. Still, the scouts own terrain navigation skills shouldn't apply while mounted.

Thats just my opinion though.

I think the point Capnkill is making is that if Vehicles/mounts are any faster than running speed in terrain, any advantage we get from the Explore tree will be negated.

Since SOE has stated that combat while on Mounts/Vehicles will be possible, I don't see how these can be faster than running speed without causing all sorts of exploits with kiting, hit and run, etc.

So, what I'm expecting to happen is for mounts to be the same speed as the creature is in the wild, Vehicles to be no faster than running speed, and both will have a transport option that works like a personal Shuttle ie: instantly transports you to your destination. Just a guess tho, it will be interesting to see
