Let's add some use to our hunting skill lines,by adding a skill to surveying. Make the natural resources scout dependant and on the exploration line. Maybe removing water and floral surveying (it makes sense scouts/nature and all), from Artisans and allow scouts to survey for these items. A few more items that artisans need us for, could be some much needed cash for scouts.

Something similar could apply to hunting, maybe we can *look* for specific MOBS within a zone (range is dependant on level) with a waypoint to the specific lair or at least give us a waypoint to where the nearest mob is (Maybe scouts who become rangers could add to this by doing a search for specificslike tamable creatures, creatures of a certain level, mounts, etc.). This would be good for CH's looking for certain creatures to tame, they could pay a ranger to track it down for them. If no rangers are around scouts could do a OVERALL mob search but could not narrow it down to specific creatures.

Maybe caves or other hidden areas only discoverable by scouts (maybe a treasure map) that only scouts can lead people to.

GQ,

The first idea is interesting, and I'll pass it along.

The tracking skill is being added at this time to the Ranger profession - they'll be able to use a command called /areascan to find creatures, people and even other players. So you're idea was so good, they're already doing it.

Delta,

Great, even if rangers are already getting this scouts could have it to a lesser degree. Before you
dismiss it as already being done, check this out!

Instead of having /areascan as a single skill let's branch it off, remember Rangers WERE MASTER scouts.

Break /areascan into two skills: /areascan1 and areascan2/

Scout would get /areascan1 up the explorer tree

Make /areascan1 a skill with +10 modifiers up each level of exploration. This would allow scouts to essentially get a *raw dump* of creatures within a specific radius (that increases with skill level similar to surveying). Example, my scout has an explorer mission and I need to find 45 womp rats. I do /areascan1 I get a dump of all (or a set number) of creatures (or lairs) within a 256m (or whatever) radius.
I have to hope one of them is a womprat (my /areascan1 results gave me gnorts, squills, banthas, rills, kreeltes, etc, I'm assuming we're on tatoonie). Dang it! No womp rats, I now have to run outside of that radius and do a /areascan1 again. Bingo! this time I find a womprat and have it appear on my radar (or waypoint). This would add to the self-sufficency of scouts and still allow rangers to have to the UBER tracking ablility. Some newbie players or artisans could have me help them find creatures for their missions or for components. This has great potential. After all when I think of a scout, I think of someone who can escort me in the wilderness to find things... but read on about how the ranger's skill would differ from the scouts.

Rangers with /areascan2 (maybe +15 modifiers up their skill tree) would be significantly more powerful, basically the equivilant of doing a CNRL + P for players, but creatures are included. Where scouts can only find every (and sometimes useless) creature in a give range, the ranger could search for SPECIFIC traits as I stated above. (Creature name, CL level, tamable, mounts, specific types, agro, etc). Now the elite players, Bounty Hunters, etc could call a ranger for help on location more specific entities or creatures.

Lemme know. I think it would work and add a layer of interdepency forcing other characters to rely on us more.

Gq,

The primary reason that /areascan was given to the Rangers was to help differentiate them (I say them, as I'm talking with my scout, not my ranger cap on) from us.

I'm not even going to try and touch this - not only am I 100% sure what the Devs answer will be, I don't want 500 angry Rangers booking flights to DC to personally kick my ass.

If you want the /areascan, go Ranger.
