Alas, the time has come, i have lost my faith and am hunting without trapping or harvesting. I have master scout (3rd time) and am wanting to be a master ranger, but my faith has been shaken. as a novice ranger i do not think that i have the devotion to be a master ranger, i am not one who scours the markets looking for the best meats to sell,i hunt for fun and for friends. i would ditch this profession entirely if i did not love my scouting bonuses, creature knowledge and such. am i not fit to be a ranger? please help me find the way back to the lightside of scouting, for i wish to master ranger, but i see no point in it, again help me find a way to be happy.

Well really there isnt. Rangers choose to play the profession. We do it out of the love and uniqueness. We are seeing a lot of players coming to it now since the end of the hologrind. Which is really unusual. But followed by "Well i want to be in a profession thats rarer then jedi". You do it because its a lifestyle. You do it because you want to be helpful to the players. And have a chance to roleplay the hunter who lives in the field and doesnt like civilization. You go ranger by choice not because of anything it gives you. Because as we all know its not much. Its not part of any uber template. And it eats up a lot of skill points for not much in return. But it keeps drawing us back to it and we dont know why. And we all believe it will be worth it in the end.
And chicks dig HTFB's. Would be nice if it kept the rain out though

I rarely hunt for the prized meats - and then I better be getting 100cpu or no sale. I hunt, trap and harvest now that I can use the xp for FS, but find the only difference is that I get xp now. Still selling meats for next to nothing, giving some to noob medics for free and hides - 2cpu to my tailor. The money is from missions, 11k per, 10k per, 6k per, all unbuffed and unarmored so no real overhead.
Of course, if you are not into hunting, you need to find a new profession. If you can manage a frontal lobotomy and can drool - go BH. They sorta hunt -well they get lost a lot, in empty buildings, parking lots, and once I found one in a river, thinking he was on Tat.
Hunting for fun and friends means you are perfect Ranger material. It's a lifestyle, not a profession.

Ranger are becoming more popular as people start trying to track their jedi prey. It's a sad fact. But most Rangers are still people who just want to go out and hunt for the heck of it. Me? I never sell any resource for over 20 cpu. Doesn't matter who's selling it for what price, I just love going hunting and helping out people. If I get enough creds to pay for my weapons and all other supplies, I don't care. That's all I need. anything above that goes towards the AV-21 fund.
If you like hunting, do it. It's like Rangers have said for a while: "It's not a proffesssion- it's a lifestlye." It's something you are, no matter what skills you have. Heck, I don't even think the Ranger correspondant is a Ranger anymore. It's not all about making monkey, you know. (apologies to both Delta and Calc...but c'mon...I HAD to).
BTW, you can check out the pics to the most recent Great Ranger Meet in the Ranger forums- the pics are in a thread stickied to the top.

I love the ranger profession. My plan was to be a Creature Handler, but then I dabbled a little in Ranger and found my calling. And its not about the profit, its about how much fun being a ranger is about.
1) Nothing more entertaining than chasing down someone who thinks they can burstrun away from your group... only to realize that a ranger is on their tail... sucks to be them.
2) Areatrack. This ability is a GOD send. BHs contact me once in a while to help them close in on their prey. Granted, my price doesn't come cheap... 50K for an hour of service. Sorry, but I don't like doing another person's crap work.
And this ability gets a lot of play in PvP now. I'm still learning who's Imperial and who's Rebel on my server, but I get an extra 200 meters warning with this ability. That's invaluable in PvP. Makes it harder to try and circle us to since I watch for group splits. Also, if someone does manage to dodge away from us during a chase I can help hunt them back down.
And finally, there is a player who happened to offend me in forums. He should pray I never see him overt when I'm overt... Cause a Ranger/Rifleman can hunt you down and make your life a living hell.
3) Money. I didn't get into this profession to make money. I planned on making enough to cover my expenses like new weapons, new PvE level armor, etc. And then I started getting requests and realized I could make a nice chunk of change doing this. Although I'll tell you, harvesting 2200 unit of Tant. Avian meat (that means dwarf nunas only) isn't worth 40 cpu... but I'm still gonna finish the deal as I'm a ranger of my word.
What I suggest doing is keeping a list of what people are interested in. Lokian Animal bones, herb meat, and avian meat are the big things with Doctors, medics, and Combat Medics. Endor Wooly and Yavin Leathery (I think) are big with Armorsmiths. What I do is I check swgcraft.com and just go after what's high quality right now and just stock up on it. Get a few thousand units and then either post on trade forums or just find someone of the proper profession and offer it up to them. Trust me, you'll get people who will accept. I sell high OQ, low other animal bones to starting medics at around 5 cpu to help get them started. The stuff provides them with decent organics for stims without killing them with expenses... generally sold in lots of 200 to 500.
Finally: milk. Chefs need it and they will buy even garbage milk at 5 cpu.
I don't start doing it for the money, but I'm not gonna walk away from it either. And while I talked a lot about how the money can be made... I like the tracking and speed aspects of being a ranger. I'll admit part of the draw is that they are so rare. Nothing has made me prouder relating to video games than slapping my Tracker title on my character. Granted, when I slap my Master Ranger title on my toon, I'm gonna post to the forums about it AND prolly have a party at my in-game house to celebrate my entrance into a truly unique, fun, and good band of brothers.
Remember, Rangers lead the way... why? Cause we track and we out-run EVERYONE!
