I got another level of Carbine last night (Expert) and went out hunting to get more data on how monster /con vs your weapon/skill affects xp gained from harvesting. It appears that the grind to get Master Scout gets worse the farther you go.

Going from Advanced to Expert in carbine shifted a bunch of animals from white to blue /con and a few from yellow to white. What I noticed is that the monsters that used to be white (like Ikopi) and give 50 Scout xp per harvest are now blue and give 42 Scout xp per harvest. Monsters that were yellow (like Fanned Rawls) used to give 79 Scout xp per harvest. They are now white /con and give 50.

The same monsters give close to the same Carbine xp per kill as before. It's about a 10% hit. Ikopi used to give 90xp. Now I get in the 80s. I get 120 for the new whites that used to give about 130 when they were yellow.

So it appears that, while the ability to kill tougher monsters nets you more xp per kill (because you're tackling harder critters), harvesting those tougher creatures nets you no more xp than the critters that were previously that /con level.

I'm not sure if this is how the devs intended it to work or not. With /maskscent xp nerfed it sure makes it tough to get to Master Scout since you're never getting more than 50 Scout xp per kill for hunting whites. I can't imagine how hard it must be to climb the Ranger tree at that rate. It has even higher xp requirements for skills.

I dont know the difference between levels but I do notice the LACK of difference in XP btween different colored MOB's. It make no sense to try killing those whites or yellows when you can kill 2 or 3 blues in the same amount of time for more XP and less damage to yourself.

Yes, you will get more EXP from higher conned mobs. Not a set amount of EXP for each type of creature. That is why getting a group of people together and taking out red con mobs will net you more EXP than anything else.

It is also why when soloing, it pays to stick to blues and whites, rather than whites and yellows. Less risk, faster and more efficient EXP gain.

I agree, I am Expert in Carbine. I was hunting eopies last night. The regular eopies, not the desert or dwarf ones. 1 eopie cons dark blue for me. Well, that 1 eopie can take about 1/2 my pools until I finally drop it. When I harvested it, I got 11 leathery hides, creature was "fat and healthy". fighting this eopie took about 45 seconds. I got 79 XP

Now, I can go out and shoot chubas (who con light blue) and kill them in one shot. I get anywhere from 4-6 leathery hides from them. I managed to get 42 XP. Well, in 45 seconds I can wipe out about 8-10 chubas.

So, let's follow the math:

Eopie, 1 minute time= 1 kill = 79 XP, 11 hides

Chubas, 1 minute = 8 kills = 42x8 XP (336 XP), 5x8 hides (40 hides)

So what's the incentive to hunt and kill bigger creatures. Marksman combat and carbine experience is the same. I was getting like 90 Carbine XP for the chubas and got 125 combat XP for the Eopie.
