You require Hunting IV and Exploration IV for CH. These both need 'Scouting XP', which you currently only get by /harvesting critters. Maskscent is so nerfed right now I've never got any xp off it, in fact it has never worked at all for me. /shrug

Pick a weapon from the Marksman tree and get killing.

The fastest way to CH was using maskscent on Lok but because of the patch that takes a while now. The fastest way to gain scout xp is to join a largegroup in which you're the only scout so you get all the harvests, (lots 'o xp.) Harvesting critures gives more xp for a red con then a green con so don't try tokill 100 babyikopi and think you'll already have CH. It's better to be in a group so you can kill/harvest harder cons.

Actually I find that mask scent onLokstill works with Explore IV. Not as well as it did before the nerf, but better than harvesting. So after getting your harvesting to II I'd recommend getting explore to IV, and using mask scent to get you the rest of the way.

I have been grouping since BETA and have yet to find a group, big or small where there is not AT LEAST one scout or scout hybrid. If you want to get steady scout XP, do NOT group. Especially in big groups, it gets very hectic, and ninja looters canget away with a lot and you have no idea who harvested. Just do destory missions, you get scout/weapon/trapping(if you want) and money too!

DEVS! PLEASE ADD A MESSAGE ON SCREEN THAT SAYS SO AND SO HARVESTED OR LOOTED SO AND SO CREATURE!! :-D

Probably the best way is toget scouting exp is to dodestroy missions on animal lairs. Not only does this provide valuable weapon and trapping skills but a steady supply of animals to harvest. It also is a steady source of income to pay for better weapons and any training you can't find another player to help you with.

You'll want to get to Level 1 in your weapon skill and Level 1 in Trapping before you try a destroy mission but that doesn't take long. An hour or two hunting the critters close to your city is usually enough. While you're doing this check the Bazaar or ask the artisans that gather at the crafting stations in town to see if you can get a better weapon. If you're lucky there may even be a player owned weapon shop close to your home town. For now (and this may change once the factoriesstart working and mass production brings the prices of higher end weapons down)look for a CDEF with a minimum of 20- 40 damage (25 - 50 or better is rare but can be found) a delay of 4.0 or better (lower is better) and a special move cost no higher than 10/25/10.

If you're going for Creature Handler you may want to concentrate on Pistol right from the start. It's special attack is the Bodyshot which targets the health pool of an animal just like your creatures eventually will. However you might want to get a Rifle instead and switch over to Pistol later. The Rifle's special attack is the Headshot that targets the Mind pool of an animal just like some of your better Scout Traps (the Sharp Bone Spur and Noisemaker). Against animals that are vulnerable to this kind of attack (Durni's and Paralopes on Corellia) you can take them down without the animal getting close to you.

Go to the prone at about 50 to 60 meters from the animal (using Maskscent and Takecover as they become available) then use Headshots until the critter's Mind pool is down to half or it charges you. Go to the kneeling and throw a Sharp Bone Spur or Noisemaker then stay in the kneeling and keep firing Headshots (Durni's you can outrun so you can "kite" these but pretty much any other animal will keep hitting you as you run so you're better off staying put andtaking a few hits so you get the boost to accuracy staying in the kneeling gives). If you work it right and the Bone Spur takes effect (it's pretty reliable but can fail) the critter should have only 1 point left in it's mind pool and you can easily finish it off, even with the point blank range penalty. "Don't" switch over to the Pistol or a melee weapon once it's close. These typically attack the Health pool and you'll have to start over again from scratch (I believe there's a Level 2 two handed swordsman attack that targets the Mind Pool but you can't really be a melee/marksman in this game if you want to have enough skill points free to master Creature Handler).

One last word of warning for novices in lair busting is that once you've killed the animals around the nest pull back around 60 meters then fire one and only one shot at the lair. You'd pick up on it pretty quickly but, just to save you a couple of incapacitations, attacking the nest will cause 3 or 4 creatures to spawn and, if you keep firing, they'll all come over to stomp you. If you fire just one shot they'll spawn but won't agro and you can clear them out one at a time. You may have to repeat this a couple of times until the nest has spawned all it will and you can fire until it's destroyed.

Anyway good hunting and be safe.
