Polymer is a type of "Inert Petrochemical". You can readily find this stuff on the bazaar, or have an artisan friend (or yourself, if you've got the skill) get it for you.
Watch out though - when buying from the Bazaar, make sure you check the stats to see that it says "Polymer" under type, because Lubricating Oil is also an Inert Petrochemical.

Yep ... be sure to chech that your buying polymer and not lubricating oil. I once made that mistake ... it was just little embarrasing ... no financial lose since I got it sold. Never done that mistake again.
If you don't mind using the skill points pick up novice artisan and a chemical, mineral and flora survey device. A chemical survey device will help you find polymer. Mineral will help you find metal and flora will help you find stuff like wood and other things. Just sample while you camp. Or you can go to the bazaar. I'd rather save the credits and sample for it myself, however.
