Thread: Couple of basic questions about the Scout Skill Tree
OK, I'm new, so bear with me ![]()
How many basic scout skills do you have to take through level IV to make master scout?
What Elite professions require that you be a master scout first?
I asked one guy in the field, and he said you need all 4 basics to become a master scout, and that you had to be a master scout to become a ranger. This is contradicted by a post I saw where one person said they had bypassed trapping and still become a ranger.
The in-game skills window just confuses me. There are some professions that are directly above a single skill line (like CH above the Exploration skill line). And there are some that are above the icon for Master Scout (Bounty Hunter and Ranger). Does that mean that the ones above the Master Scout icon require that you be a Master Scout first?
I can't remember a game where things like this are not only so unintuitive, but also so undocumented....
Any help appreciated ![]()

Forgot to mention that BH also requires Master Marksman.
Deg,
Also, check out my two Scouting guides for more info on starting out, if you haven't already.

I did check them out, Delta. Very helpful
Thanks for the replies, that clears things up nicely.
So that means that, if the elite skill name is above the Master box in the basic skill tree, then you need to be a Master in order to specialize that skill? Am I right about that? Also: How can you tell, from looking at the in-game skill window, what skills are needed to become a Master in a profession? I've got the manual, and the strat guide both. I've checked the Holocron for this information. If it's in any of those places, I've missed it.
It would seem to me that it would have to be in that skill window somewhere. I must be dense ![]()

Here's the skill tree run down. There are six starting professions: Artisan, Brawler, Entertainer, Marksmen, Medic and Scout. Then there are 32 (?) elite and hybrid professions. You can only obtain an elite or hybrid profession by either masteringone or morestarting profession or by specializing in one or more branches of one or more starting profession. It depends on the profession.
To read the skill trees go press Ctrl+S. On beginning professions you will see one or more elite professions listed either above one branch of the skill tree or above the master box of the skill tree. If it is above the master tree you need to be a master of that profession to become that next profession. If it is above one branch you only need to complete that branch. However, certain professions may require more than one branch specialization or more than one profession mastery. For example for Bounty Hunter you must be a master scout and a master marksmen. For Commando you must be a master marksmen and an unarmed specialist (have unarmed IV under the brawler tree).
To become a master of any profession you have to fill in all 18 boxes (1 novice box, 16 skill boxes, 1 master box). For the novice box for the starting professions you simply need to pay the NPC trainer 100 credits. For the elite and hybrid professions you need to fill the XP requirment and pay an NPC trainer. For example for bounty hunter after you are a master scout and a master marksmen you must obtain 40,000 combat XP and then find a bounty hunter trainer to train you in novice. To fill the 16 skill boxes you must fulfill the requirement for experience the box asks for and receive training from another player who has the skill or the NPC trainer. For example, for the pistol branch under marksmen you gain XP by shooting things with your pistol, for ranged weapon support you gain combat XP from anything you kill. Finally to become a master you must gain Apprentice XP. You gain this by training others skills you have already learned. After you have the required Apprentice points you must receive training from an NPC or player who has the skill already.

They have all the skill trees on this page. It has not been updated for the last patch however. But its pretty accurate, nonetheless.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. So...in order to be a master of any of the basic professions, you have to have all of the skills listed, all the way up and through level IV? I could swear I read that some of the basic professions did NOT require all 4 skill trees to be maxed. I must have read wrong, or got some bad information.
I'll check out that address, and thanks again.
Deg,
Starting professions you have to max out all four trees.
Some elite professions you only need to make out one of the trees. For example, in order to become a "Swordsman", you only need to make it up through the "two-hand sword" tree in Brawler.

Guys more questions...
so to become a BH i have to have all 18 boxes filled on scout and all 18 boxes trained in marksman where as to be a smuggler all i need is the 4 lines up through pistol and 4 lines up through unarmed??
i'm lost dazed and confussed ![]()

Don't mix apples with oranges. Each profession has different requirements. BH isnot Smuggler is not Ranger, tho they all require some scouting. The easiest way to do it is to control S, all professions, click on what you ultimately want to be, then see what you have to do to feed into it. Work from the top down. You want to be a Ranger, the only feed in is Scout, says you have to be a Master Scout (all 4 lines filled) to be a Novice Ranger. BH is the same way, master scout and master marksman - not a lot of pts left over for other stuff.
Hoped this helped

Master Ranger
All replies have helped clear things up. Thanks for that, because if it was up to the game documentation, or even the 25 dollar strat guide,I would still be floundering around clueless.
I've been meaning to head over the alakhazam.com and check out the career builder tool someone told me about, but I can't stay on that site more than two clicks without having at least half a dozen pop-ups spamming me.
