Thread: Scout Skills, Combat, and the Galactic Civil War
Yes, I'm becoming a GCW PvP fan.
What makes it even more fun is my combat skills are Master Marksman only. I'm working on my 40,000 XP pre-req for Bounty Hunter...I would have chosen Commando -- but I'd have had to give up Scout and its been too useful of a profession to drop. So for now I'm a lowly Marksman.
But I digress...
I've been wandering around as a declared Imperial A LOT lately in order to run faction missions with my stormtrooper and biker scout. I'm fairly safe on Naboo and I haven't been ganked by a high-level combat character in weeks.
But last night I made the silly mistake of visiting Tatooine while showing my brother in law the game. Oh yeah...I was declared...and there were a LOT of red dots on my map around Mos Eisley spaceport. I had undeclared but had forgotten it takes 1 hour to go back to covert status. Oops.
I burst ran out of the city to the top of a mountain as fast as I could. Someone tried to pursue but due to my scout skills I could run further than him. Chalk up a victory for Burst Run Efficiency.
I wandered around for a while killing lairs and harvesting random hides and bone waiting for my overt timer to run out when a red dot appeared on my radar. The dot was moving toward me quickly which can only mean one thing.
Overt Rebel.
@#$#! me!
I targetted him from a distance, verified he was indeed a Rebel PC, and began running the other way hoping he'd lose interest.
He didn't, he was persistent.
I kept him at a distance but he closed by "cutting the corner" when I turned to avoid a nest of aggro Mountain Squills.
@#$#!
I got hit with a Mindshot. So...I got a rifleman on my ass. I start returning fire with Bodyshots from my Republic blaster but he's a much stronger combat character. Thankfully he's now got his rifle equipped and I pull away as he slows. His speed then begins matching mine as he unequips his rifle.
This guy did not want to give up.
I head for the nearest, steepest mountain and begin climbing it as tho its barely an incline. I turn and wait with my finger over F10 (BodyShot1) and watched his range close...90 meters...80...70...at 65 I began spamming shots. His speed drops significantly as he hits the mountain.
I got in one good shot and eased myself up the hill about 10 meters and just spammed F10-F10-F10-F10-F10-F10 until he got in range. Gave him another good one but took a Mindshot in the process. I popped some Muon Gold (Shift-F8) and eased up the hill again.
Babies crawl faster than this guy up hills. Must suck not to have Terrain Negotiation eh?
Again I spammed BodyShot1 until he got in range, hit him and moved up. This time he MISSED and before I knew it he started a burst run at me.
CRAP!
I hit F5 (burstrun) and took off to the top of the hill easily pulling away not before taking another Mindshot. There was now an uncomfortable amount of white in my HAM bar.
I figured I'd just outdistance him. I crested the hill and began running down the other side. The rebel was just on the edge of my radar and holding steady as decended into the valley. Up ahead 4 aggros appears around a nest on my radar, I hit Shift-F4(MaskScent) and ran past them...they were some kind of big nasty spitting beetle (I've killed them before. on a hunt. They con red for me but I can't remember what they're called) and they never took notice of me.
But they saw saw the rebel and aggro'd all over him.
And as luck would have it his burstrun ran out.
It REALLY must suck not to have burst run efficiency.
I stopped to watch and /shout "Bwahahaha! Rebel Scum! Eat angry beetle vengeance." and took off across the desert never to see him again.
The moral is...if you think that vehicles and mounts diminish our skills, remember this story. Scout skills can be indespensible in combat and I'll never give them up.
Rebels on Bloodfin must be sissies. I woulda pwned joo so bad...lol Ok, Master Ranger with 4-2-4-4 Pistoleer. Run as fast and as far, then outmatch you in weapons. Oh yeah..0-0-3-0 in medic, stims Cs are the bomb. Plus camo and or maskscent, what aggros??
Dance on my bones will ya?? Not likely... tho good story about a really stoopid rebel.
GL FUna, I hear there's an open slot on the second Death Star, apply for it.

I'm going to be waiting on Endor for any rebels that try to take out our shield generator. There's no way I'll allow it to happen.
While I'm at it I'm gonna make a new coat out of Ewok hides...I hear baby Ewoks have the softest fur.
Great story... Hail the Empire haha...
Noe i want to pick up Ranger even more... think im gonna drop my marksman 4 0 0 3 for that... (i gotTKA and Master Medic now)
JB,
You're right about the Rebs on Bloodfin.
My guild has led three raids on three seperate Reb cities this weekend - not a single Reb showed up. They've even stopped putting up outposts and turrets because as soon as they did, they knew we'd be there.
Switch servers - we need a challenge over here.

Good tactics can save your arse even vs. an elite. Good job on the evasion.
