Thread: Quick question about trapping

Whenever I throw a trap at a creature, it always detects me and runs at me. If I'm 40m away and prone or 25m and kneeling, mask scent or not, it never fails. Normally I wouldn't care, but seeings as how I'm also a rifleman, it kinda hurts my accuracy when they're that close. I waited until trapping IV to see if it would somehow improve, but it hasn't. I still want to get master ranger and was hoping maybe there was something I could do about it. Am I doing anything wrong or is that just the way traps work? I appreciate any help you could give me.

Hi there, most die hard Scout/Rangers play all nite and only post when the servers are down.

Throwing a trap initiates combat. Maskscent won't break, but initiating combat will alert the creature you are there, so he aggros on you. You are doing the stuff right, but in the wrong order. Read on.

Now, here is a sneaky method that works 90% of the time. Maskscent, pop a bleed shot or two, then peace. The creature will not aggo on you - yet. Move back out of range. The bleeds kick in, now the creature aggros. You are well out of melee range, but in great rifle range. Don't spam too many shots tho. When the creature hits 50m toss a Pdart. He slows down, you run to the right or left, and take more shots. Creature dies, you never get touched. Works well on social creatures too, they will not BAF most of the time using this method.

I use it to solo. No pet, just me and a pistol.

Good luck

This is 100% correct. Even at master ranger the "Conceal" won't stop them - Think of throwing at a grenade at a mob of people with little black stripes on and some deoderant on screaming "HOW DID THEY SEE ME?"

Alright, yea. It pretty much makes sense now. I just assumed because I could bleed shot and get a few head shots off before they found me, that I would be able to lob a trap or two. As for how I got trapping IV, it came pretty fast after I got rifle III. The mission terminals in Theed were giving me Large Gualama lairs to destroy. I could take those down pretty easy and they were giving mearound to190 trapping xp per trap...at least the Mavrick Gualamas were. The others were close to that too though. I just get two missions of those guys and go take em out. Threw 5 or so traps at each one of them to pile up the xp. Thanks for the help fellow scouts.
