lo m8's,

i am master TKA and Master Commando and i thought i would get some scout skills so i could harvest and sell the stuff..

just a few things im not sure about..

i took a few missions on lok andalso killed any animals i seen in between traveling to the missions, even though i was killing different types of animals i was getting exactly the same quality hide/bone or meat from each one, i thought i would have a few different types of hide in my inventory but when i looked it wasall in just 1stack.

i did notice the animals that were harder to kill gave a bit more stuff to harvest, i was wondewring though..

does going further up the tree help you get more stuff or better stuff from the animal you've killed ?

as im not gonna master the profession im not sure weather to just keep the basics or weather i would get some benfit from using all my remaining points..

and... what animals are the best to kill for quality stuffor does that just vary ?

thx in advance for any tips..

The FAQ should have most of your answers.

There are only two types of bones per planet per shift. And then there are the hides and meats. But all creatures that are herbivores will drop herbivore meat. All creatures that are carnivores will drop carnivore meat. Its not different for each creature, thankfully. Shifts happen every couple of weeks at complete random and dont hit all resources at once. You will learn the pattern as you do it.

Watch your galaxies trade forum for a post by doctors, chefs ect looking to buy organics. They will give you a price say "80cpu Lok Avian meat" which is on Bloodfin right now. The higher the CPU the harder it is to collect it. SO think about hunting Perleks and Flits for a couple days and you'll understand why something like avian meat gets such high CPU. Plus its needed in buff production.

In short
Wooly/leather hide OQ/SR/Mall with OQ/SR over 800
All meats with high OQ/PE/FL/DR in some combination
Avian meat with OQ/PE/DR over 790-800 for the three will pay well.

And you will learn to hate Tatooine Nunas when the avian meat is best there

As you go further into Scout you get the "examine" ability. This allows you to tell what type of meat/hide/bone the creature drops. Not the quality or quantity, just the types. Sounds like you picked on like creatures and just happened to get a lot of the same type of hides/bones/meat.

Like Fodder said, there are only two types of bone - avian and animal. Meats are herbivore, carnivore, wild, reptile and domestic. Hides are wooly, leathery and scaley. The type of resource dropped on a planet remains constant throughout all animals that drop that resource. All avian bone droppers on Lok drop the same type of bone at the same time, regardless of what animal.

You get more from larger animals - usually. Some larger animals lack bones (pickets) and some small animals drop decent amounts of meat (kima). Quantity varies, not quality.

There is the rare instance of getting two types of a meat/bone/hide from one planet. Usually occurs during a shift of resources. Rare, doesn't last all that long, fun to see tho.

Finally - each server has it's own shifts, own resources and own stats. Check recent posts on shifting and you will see what we mean.

thanks a lot m8's, this info is very useful for me starting out..

i've been running a bunch of harvesters for a while so i understand about resource shifting etc...i read a few other posts in this forum and seen a useful site to, swg creatures.com, ive not had a close look at it yet but i think it tells you the current resources on the servers.

is the examine skill really needed once you get to know the different animals ? just wondering if it's worth me using the few points i still have left if im not gonna use it much after a while..

i also was talking to another fella in my guild who told me get some food and a droid so i couldharvest more, i spent 60k on a droid but it didnt seem to make that much difference, are you supposed to group with it and stay grouped till after you've harvested the stuff ?

thx agian m8's.

The food you want is vegehash, I'm just starting a new rifleman/scout/eventually ranger toon on Starsider and while my main has done some of the scout stuff before when I was going to go BH I never used food, of course I got all the xp I needed then in just a few hours hunting rancors in a group. They gave 1500 scout xp every time I harvested something. My point with that is that I don't know if food affects how much a harvest droid can pull for you. That brings me to the next point, did you buy a harvest droid? If not, that is what you want, doesn't have to be high end to start out but it won't hurt if you can afford it. Basically you tell the droid what you want to harvest (bone, meat, hide, or random) and then every time you kill something you give the droid a command and it runs over and harvests the creature you killed, great for those of us using rifles to kill.

Examine also tells you the creatures resists. Like Peko albatrosses are 100% kinetic immune. Enraged kimos are 100% acid immune.

I am not sure where this comes in, I have had it so long. May be the Ranger tree. So very useful. I have been known to yell to others in the party what weapons to to use for best results.

Oh yeah, harvest droids suck. Get a killer droid and you will drop creatures faster and get more resources in the same time. Just my opinon, but chasing after an intimidated harvest droid is a waste of time. Killers don't run.

heh, I'd do that but I need the weaps xp at the same time right now. Maybe once I get up into rifleman a bit, or I guess I could use the combat droid to kill big stuff to harvest and sell for money right now and work on the weaps xp later

A DE on my server sells tanks. One combat module so it will not run, 5 repair mods so it stands there, takes hits and self repairs. It doesn't do a whole lot of damage but is a great tank.

I also noticed with my killer, while it doesn't eat up much of my xp, I can and do take on larger creatures with it. It can and has saved my bacon a time or three, as I went incap (ran out of stims) and it kept fighting, keeping the creatures from DBing me. If the killers get low, they tend to flee and drag the aggros off, again, saving you if incapped.

JB

if you haven't noticed, I really like killer/tank droids and think the one trick ponies are a waste of a space
