Gentlemen

Have just started working my way through the Scout profession and so far I have been chased by almost everything that moves. When trying to shoot something with what would appear as an excuse for a gun all I seem to do is make the thinbg madder. Yes,I am picking green / white cons but there must be a way to get a weapon that is a bit better ... Help

Ok the key here is the "Shooting" part. See when a creature comes under attack it has a natural tendency to defend itself. Now if you use conceal shot from the rifleman tree it doesnt know who to be angry with. Or if you your using your mask scent there is a chance it wont find you either. Especially in the ranger trees you will see conceal help here to.

But combat tends to break mask scent with at least the target your shooting at

White cons are bad for noobs.

Green cons, light blue cons are good.

Don't shoot at anything bigger than you are.

Also, check the weapon you are using and make sure you are: a. rated to use it b. using a weapon that has condition left on it c. not a CDEF

Using a weapon you are not rated for is bad, as you do little damage. Using a weapon with no condition is the same. Using a CDEF is about useless. Yes, you have to start someplace, but start small and as soon as you can, move up.

and don't call it a gun, it's a weapon

Continuing with the Newb Questions :

If you only have a CDEF and no skills ( yet ) what do you do. Also, what is meant by condition and how do you check to see if you have any left. Yes, I can look for Greens & Blues but sometime there are only whites available. And yes, it's a weapon but then so is a bazooka ...

Okay B, here's the deal.

Ranged weapons, especially as a noob, are fairly inaccurate. You will increase the inaccuracy if you are moving. So don't move. Also - be sure to know the range modifier on your weapon.

Rifles work best when you are prone. Carbines, kneeling, and pistols standing. Make sure that when you're shooting, that the modifier next to the guy's hams bar is + and not -. That'll increase your to-hit chance.

If you haven't leveled any boxes up, don't stray too far from the noob zones in your starting city. On Naboo, you should be killing capper spineflaps, nunas, and the like.

If you've only got a CDEF, level a box or so and then check and see what weapon certification you've gained - then take a stroll over to the bazaar and buy the best version of that weapon available.

Finally, once you get a box or two, you can start running missions to increase your cashflow. Do that, and then find a weaponsmith or a weapons vendor and get a good weapon. If you can find any, pick up some Citros Snow Cake to increase your ranged accuracy (but that's not always necessary, and finding a good chef can be difficult).

Good luck.

Really, ANY weapon's accuracy is improved by going kneeling, and more so going prone. Pistols are just made to be used in people's faces, where you want to be standing. Try using a modified Republic Blaster at long ranges sometime, you'll find yourself using strategies such as you described for Riflemen...

Condition - examine the weapon. There are two numbers, like 990/1000. If the number is like 1/1000 or 1/250, your pistol is dead. (the 1 means it has about no condition left) At 0/whatever, it will do about 1 point of damage regardless of how good it was.

At 25% remaining, your damage and speed start to decay. Fix it or buy a new one.

And go shoot butterflies or gubbers instead of white cons.

And there are only a couple of "guns" - shotguns and cannons. And the toy things you play with. A bazooka doesn't exist - though rocket launchers do. Refer to "Full Metal Jacket", the movie.

Bantha_racer,

What skills do you have in the marksman tree? Also, check your certifications in your Ctrl-S (skills) menu and make sure you're not using a weapon you're unable to use. Those are always your best weapons, even if they're not very high damage.

You mention that there's a lot of white.. Where are you hunting? If you have novice marksman and are weilding a proper weapon, most things outside the cities on starter planets should be conning blue or green. (most likely dark blue at first)

If you're going up the rifles branch, go prone before shooting. If you're carbineer or pistols, try kneeling first. When something gets charges at you, stand up. Running will decrease your accuracy, so you'll hit even less. The best advice I could give to a beginner marksman is to pick up novice medic.. craft your own Stim As or buy some Stim B's off the bazaar and /heal yourself as you're fighting.

little hint about fixing weapons as well.

The higher the functionality rating the better. There is a hotly debated argument about if high levels even matter, but i can tell you that every 99.8 (and the rare while that i had 100's in stock) have not failed me yet.

Even if you repair an item but the max condition is lowered, you still have a fully functional weapon (just with a lower max condition).

What ranged profession are you planning on?
