I started scout a few days ago, after having mastered scout on 3 different occasions with different toons. Up until Tuesday's patch, my traps were hit and miss - hitting more than missing. Since the Tuesday patch, I have missed hundreds of times. I am half-way through trapping 2 and cannot get any trap to stick to any creature! I have thrown at this point 27 bone spurs (at 6 uses per) and 11 leancipine darts (at 5 uses per) without a hit - and that is only since I started counting. I have /bugged this, but isn't there supposed to be at least a 5% chance of hitting? If that is working correctly, then I am the unluckliest statistical anomoly.
Any other scouts notice this?

What were you going after?

Funny you should post this. One of my guys whos leveling scout was saying the same thing. I blamed it on the fact that he was a novice scout hitting quenkers. I told him to go trap lesser plains bols instead. I had to go to work before finding out if it worked.

As a matter of fact, yes, I noticed this. I had a run of about 10 traps in a row that failed... come on, I am trapping level 25 Tortur and Level 40 Gleaming Lantern Birds here, not Krayts.
I did see a leveling out yesterday, with my trap stick rate returning to normal. I was trapping on Yavin4 with normal success rates.
Could be your server having a hiccup. If the problem persists, let us know. Specifically, what where you trapping and the traps being used.

New tally:
32 Bone Spurs (at 6 uses each) and 16 leancipine darts (at 5 uses each) without a single trap taking effect.
Creatures hunted: Bodoks, lantern birds, robas, swirling prong, qunkers, lesser plains bols, bols, and huurtons.
I crashed before returning to Corellia - I was going to try something stupid like paralopes or durni's to see if they got trapped.
Granted, I've been going after mid-level creatures, but do the math: 32*6 + 16*5 = 272 consecutive traps thrown without a hit.
Now a while ago TH stated that every creature/person in the game would always have a 5% chance to hit and a 5% chance to miss no matter what stacked template they have. 5% of 272 is 13.6, so I am definitely "beating the odds" so to speak, but in a bad way.
Again, I've mastered scout 3 times since launch (4 times if you include beta 3) on different toons, and have never had this run of bad luck. I'll have to try again tonight. Oh - and for the record, the server is Tempest.

Wow, that is crappy luck or percentages.
I just returned from Endor also. Stuck 2 sets of bone spurs (12) and 3 sets of P darts (15). 100% stick rate. Same creatures, more or less, gleaming lantern birds, bordoks and a couple of bolles who wandered by.
I am wondering if you are trying too high a level for your traps? I know GLBs are 37.
Send in a /bug if you can't stick any on paralopes or durni. Anyone can stick a trap on a paralope.

Well, I did some further testing last night, and it looks like trapping works, based on the /con of the target.
For Red /con, I never hit with a trap.
For Yellow /con, I hit about 10%-15% of the time with a trap.
For a White /con, I hit about 40% of the time with a trap.
For anything else, I hit about 85% of the time with a trap
I guess this surprised me because I do remember doing scout before and hitting Red /cons about 20% to 30% of the time with a trap. I guess that this changed somewhere along the way from the last time I mastered Scout (which was probably around publish 6). I also guess that the 5% chance to always hit, 5% chance to always miss for combat does *not* apply to the throwing of traps.
Thanks to everyone for the support and suggestions. I now feel better knowing what is going on.

Actually i did some testing last night as well using sonic pulse (from ranger) and glow-wire (from scout). And as a master ranger against Bol (CL29) and Bol Pack Runner (CL26) i was having some odd results. Sonic Pulse would stick on them more then 80% of the time. But glow-wire was only having a 50/50 chance of sticking. And these arent what you would normally call a high level creature and as a master ranger i never had an issue before.
Against Horned Voritors (Cl53) and Grassland Voritors (Cl47) my glow-wires were never sticking. This was on the edge of normal anyway for what i've seen work in the past. But i never landed a glow-wire once on either of them. Same goes for the Sonic-Pulse against them as well. I have had traps work on them before this last patch
So something is wrong with trapping right now. Im just having a hard time nailing down what normal is to go and test it. I've been a ranger for a long time and i have a scout with trapping 2 on Wanderhome i could use for testing at the scout level if you all think it would help to get a better test.

I am TKA and Novice Ranger. Yesterday I was trying to pull a piket on dant and threw at least 8 stacks of glow wire because I hate running up to things and the bonus is nice. Not a single one stuck. So ya since the patch apparently our traps are not quite as usefull =/ That puts them at what? A step above cosmetic flashes of light?

No, that would be the ranger traps.

Hey now I happen to like the Ranger traps since there area of effect. Sure they could be better but they are still useful for a brawler ranger like myself.
