Now that I'm nearing completion of the upper level scout skills and Master Scout, I'm wonder which of the Elite and Hybrid Profession are best. I was leaning toward Squad Leader when I started, but have hear some disparaging remarks on that. How does SL stack up with Bounty Hunter, Ranger, Creature Handler and Bio Engineer?

It depends on your perspective.

If you love grouping and don't mind waiting forever - take Squad Leader. I have this skill, and I just got my first box of Squad Leader finished last night. I picked up the skill two weeks ago.

If you love being a Scout and don't mind too some profession issues - take Ranger. I also have this skill, and am four boxes from Master.

If you love playing with animals and being immature (not everyone, but it seems like it - take CH. But keep in mind, they are getting nerfed pretty hard, so don't plan on being "uber" unless you make master.

If you love killing things and want to be pretty powerful - take BH. These guys are real asskickers, but getting both Master Scout and Master Marksman takes a while.

If you want to play with animals, craft and be patient - take BE. They are sort of the "crafting" creature handlers. Luckily, more maturity seems to also be prereq for BE, because I don't find them nearly as annoying as CHs. Not at all, practically.
