Thread: Quality of harvested materials?

Can someone tell me what determines the overall quality of harvested materials? Do some creatures naturally have a higher quality hide than other types of creatures? does the weapon I use in combat have any impact? (ex. Lasers leave burns lowering the quality...)

just curious
Chris

Darth,

Sorry for not replying to this before - my mistake.

The quality is affected by a number of things, in my experience. First, location. The more difficult planets generally have creatures with higher quality hides. Second, creature type. I've also found that the most difficult creatures generally have higher quality hides. The health of the creature is an important attribute, as the "fat and healthy" will give you better quality than "scrawny and sickly".

Those seem to be, in my experience, the primary factors in determining the quality of a hide. I'll check with the Scout dev to get a more precise answer for you when I speak to him next.

Yea but all of this harvested item gets put in the same stack.... So it gets mixed all up??? I've checked the numbers after harvesting meat from one kill... killed a number of additional critters (from the same spawn) and seen an assortment of different types of harvests from skinny, to meaty and fat... yet to the best of my knowledge the quality/flavor/potential energy numbers don't budge... the stack stays the same as it was on the first harvest.

It does seem as if the "quality" of the animal alters the amount harvested...

Cannon,

That's odd because while some of the meat that I've been harvesting recently stacks, some of it doesn't.

For example - I harvested two different lairs of Kaadus last night. The meat all stacked. I then harvested two seperate lairs of Fambaas and the meat from the different lairs didn't stack. I had one stack of 1900 meat, and another of 750. One was of much higher quality than the other.

I'll need to do more research on this.

When the quality is the same, they resources stack. On Correlia, leather hide, wooly hide, and scaley hide almost always stacks except when they do a resource shift but more on that later. However bristley hide usually doe snot stack as different bristley creatures drop differnet quality hides, even creatures from the same lair. If you go to a diffenrt planet you will get differnent hide that will not stack with your hides from your home planet.

When they do a resoruce shift is when I go crazy. When this happens, the quality of the normally stackable hides change and they stop stacking with the old ones but now stack as new ones. BUT if you are online when this happens you will often get bugged. Yesterday for me is was Scaley hides. I found a choice spot right in between two wild Correlian Butterfly lairs, the hard ones with the Defneders and Warrios that drop 30+ hides each harvest and I got bugged. The dreaded "this creature was skinny" and I only get a single hide! I had to go to Naboo to find some Scaley hide. When you are bugged like this you have to wait for thge daily server reset to get fixed again.

I mentioned this in a post replying to the guide. It would be helpful to have a list of values so you don't waste your time harvesting hides when the meats are better. I hunt on Correlia and primarily lower level creatures for now.

Vrelt and Scavenger Rats notch up a Wild Meat score of 702 (still below the 800 level but not bad).

Paralapo (ok I can't remember how to spell it) have awful herbivore meat (41 or something) but 500+ wooly hide. Durni have 100 somethingish wooly hide.

I have found however that Correlian Animal Bones is combined no matter what boned animal I kill - except for the carrion (oh man I have to look this up again) which has Avian Bone.

Higher end creatures that I've very occasionaly killed have better quality.

I'm not sure on the averaging... I thought it improved a bit (remembering the Paralapo and Durni example, I'm sure the Wooly Hide score jumped up from 140 to 500+) but I might be wrong. If not then the amendment should be either (1) average it out but combine it or (2) keep them separate.
