Thread: How do I know what level creature I can Trap?

I'm still new to this scout thing. I just got Trapping 1 (Sharp Bone Spur and Glow-Juice Trap). I was fighting Falumpasets (level 16 I think) and I must have thrown 20+ traps at them with none of them working.

Do traps only work on little creatures? Does my Trapping skill matter on what kind of creature I can trap?

I'm worth every credit.

Hawaiian,

Yeah - your level of skill will make a difference.

Generally, it's a good idea to not be smacking things that con white, yellow or red to you with Traps until you get to at least Trapping 3. This may be a drag, because if you are a lower level scout and taking on Falumpsets without having your ass handed to you on a sparkleing silver platter, you must be pretty high along in combat.

I suggest hitting night spiders, hermit spiders, gnorts and nunas until you get up higher. Then with your new traps, go back to the Falumpsets, Bolles, Fambys and the rest.

If you are a loner like me, and on a planet you really have no business being on, again like me, here is another idea, though probably not very popular because of the heal time. Takes a little research but it can work:

Find a creature that will not kill you when incapacitated. These are usually Herbavores in my experience. You can find out which are Herbavores by Examining the creature and checking for it's type of meat it provides.

Find ones that run in packs or family groups. In any given pack there are usually some rather large and impressive ones that act as the pack leaders or some other large variety. Usually male.

Also, make sure that they are not Agressive.

Now, once you have found a pack of these creatures, you can probably take out the babies without much trouble (at least for me with my rifle, not that I condone such behavior but when you need a tent, you need hides and if there isn't anything small around ... well ..... ). When you are ready, all healed up and at your fittest (max stats), go and hit the biggest manbajamba to get it's attention. I just usea rifle shot or two to get them to get out of the group and thus not have too many of them attacking at once.

When he starts charging then use any and all traps at your disposal. You will go down, but then they will leave you be. You will never take the big guy out (or at least I never have) but it is very impressive how quicly you learn from it.

But like i said, the heal time is unpleasant. Not for those in a rush, but when you are desparate ... like me... "shrug" it works alright.

OOC: Okay, not the best solution in the world but where I am at I really don't get much choice. I have gotten around 750 xp from onerush using this. I don't recommend it but I am in a place where if I can't kill it in one shot, then I am probably not going to come out of the fight alive, let alone concious. So there, my little 2 cents worth.
