Thread: Scouts don't need armor?
This is confusing to me because mobs ALWAYS seem to get within melee range with me.
I'm expert rifle trained with a (10-123, 2.3 speed) spraystick and the stuff in the mission termianls, like murra's and vynocks, are impossible to do without running away and shooting behind you.
I wear chitin armor that deflects about 70% of the dmg off of me and I still get incapped a decent amout. Am I doing something wrong? This is my first combat class char so any pointers would be helpful.
I usually use the glow-stick trap followed by some overshot and regular shots for my kills.
Eb,
You're aren't doing anything wrong per se.
The thing about being a rifleman is that as you get up higher, you'll be one shotting things from long range, which precludes you from needing to worry about armor. With Headshot 3 and my T21 (which isn't a top of the line one) I can hit for 1400-1600 damage from range. Not much that I can solo safely is going to get near me.
For the larger mobs, I can alternate headshot with warning shot. With those two, I can keep mobs within my effective range without worrying about them getting near me. And throw in mind shot, and it doesn't matter if they get close and cap me - they'll still go down.
So for you - for now - having the armor is useful. You'll outgrow it eventually. I gave my full set of padded to a guildie yesterday, and I don't think I'll be shopping for any anytime soon.

This allows me to use my rifle from about 60m out with out suffering the HAM cost of my armor. When the mob bum rushes me and my rifle becomes ineffective I armor up and start shooting with my carbine.
It is also worth noting that all armor is not equil. Just because you have Composite armor does not mean you have the best. You need to get your suit from an armorsmith who knows what they are doing and sell it pre-sliced. On tarquinas I have seen Comp Armor chestplates with Health costs of close to 300. Who ever made that armor did not have a clue what they were making! My smith of choice produces Comp chestplates with Health cost of around 120. He also charges 35000 a peices for it.
When I make CH, i may no longer need the armor, as I have a couple tank creatures already. But for now... I keep that macro on my main toolbar. 8) Your milage may vary.
I was wearing Bone Armour at first and then switched to Mabari. I noticed a big difference. However after I got the full set I found out that I was getting incapacitated way too often. I then realized that my strength and (can't remembet what the third modifier is) when well below 100 !!!
I sold my armour and went to a Tailor who made me 2 sets of camo clothes (desert-style like the starter pants and another set forest-style). When I put on my spec-ops duster I feel that I look like a real Scout-Ranger.
