Thread: Question for Delta on Examine

Delta, I don't remember what questions you said you spoke to Scout Dev. about. I know we have been discussing the Examine info and what some of it means. After reaching Master Scout I now get the challenge level the creatures. Here is my question.

What does that mean to me and how do I know what the challenge level is in respect to me? How do know what my level is? How does knowing this help me?

Secondly, as I have posted before, what about know if they help each other? I would soooo rather know that then what level they are. Who cares what the level is, I can see what the con color is which tells me general level, and if I have a chance or not. Personally I would rather have the info of whether or not the animals will help each other. Trust me, that would tell me if I'm going to attack them or not. Especially if I'm solo.

This also seems like information a Scout would know about animals, especially a master scout. Has this been discussed with the Scout Dev?

Thanks Delta.

Squid,

The "challenge" of the animal (or NPC) is basically the internal "level" of the creature, from 1 - 100. Since I've not seen any creatures with level 100 (a Gurreck is 60 I believe) I have to assume that level 100 is reserved for extremely high level NPCs like Darth Vader or a Jedi Master. It basically gives you some base idea of how difficult the creature is going to be.

Ferocity is the only one that I've directly spoken with the Scout dev on, but the ability to determine if an animal is "social" is a skill I'd like to see either Master Scout or Rangers have, and it's on my list.

As for determining your internal level, I can only assume that since "white" conned creatures are creatures you stand an even match against winning or losing, these are probably at or around your level. So examine a creature that cons white to you and you should be able to determine your "internal" level. Keep in mind that that level is also modified by your skills and weapons.

I hope this answers the question.

Thanks Delta. It does answer my questions. I didn't think about the white con idea. Good one.

And yes, as you plan, ask the Dev about determining if creatures are "social". That is a great peace of information. I personally think it should be something in the Scout line or at least at Master. Although Ranger could use some, "actually usefull" perks for the profession. So adding it to novice Ranger would be cool. It should'nt be placed to high up though, because at that point, you are likely so powerful and skillfull, it's not going to matter a whole lot to you.

In my opinion there needs to be a balance of making placing these skill perks at a level where they are still useful, but not so low in profession it overpowers a low level character.

Squid,

That's exactly right - I think we as scouts with just a little tweaking will be exactly where we need to be - not just a speed bump on the way to CH crapdom, but also not so incredibly tough that people drop us in favor of becoming Politicians when they come out.

Ranger needs a lot of help, and I hope that some of the ideas we've come up with, like new traps, camps, the "tracking" skill, etc. get added for them - they need it.
